Celebrating a Decade of SAP Fiori: A Journey of Innovation and Success

Ten years ago, at the legendary SAPPHIRE NOW in Orlando, SAP Fiori was unveiled to the world, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey in the world of enterprise software. Today, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of SAP Fiori, an incredible success story that has revolutionized the user experience (UX) in the modern business landscape.

SAP Fiori: From Humble Beginnings to a Gigantic Ecosystem

SAP Fiori started with just 25 applications and has now grown into a massive ecosystem with an astounding 15,842 applications! It has become a comprehensive design system for enterprise software, setting the benchmark for a unified, intuitive, and modern UX in the business world. Millions of users now rely on Fiori apps every day to accomplish their work tasks with ease and efficiency.

SAP Fiori 1

The revolution began with a groundbreaking collection of mobile applications that completely reshaped the user experience in SAP scenarios. This first iteration of SAP Fiori focused on simplifying and enhancing the most common tasks, such as approvals, information lookups, and self-service tasks. The introduction of SAP Fiori 1 marked a significant departure from the traditional, complex SAP interfaces, making it more user-friendly and intuitive.

SAP Fiori 2

Building on the success of the first version, SAP Fiori 2 expanded the Fiori design to ERP scenarios, streamlining business processes and further improving user experience. The launch of SAP Fiori 2 brought new features, such as the Fiori Launchpad, which offered a centralized and personalized access point for all SAP applications. This version also included improved navigation, enhanced visualizations, and role-based access to information. In 2015, SAP Fiori 2 was recognized with the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for its contribution to innovative design in enterprise software.

SAP Fiori 3

The most recent evolution of SAP Fiori saw its design system integrated into all SAP products, thereby empowering intelligent enterprises. With SAP Fiori 3, SAP introduced the concept of “Horizon,” which provided a more coherent and consistent user experience across all SAP solutions. This version also introduced a series of advancements, such as the SAP CoPilot, an AI-powered digital assistant designed to help users interact more efficiently with their SAP applications. Additionally, SAP Fiori 3 focused on integrating SAP’s Intelligent Technologies, such as machine learning and predictive analytics, into its design, further enhancing the user experience and productivity.

The continuous evolution of SAP Fiori showcases SAP’s dedication to improving user experience and ensuring seamless integration with their entire software suite. Each iteration of SAP Fiori has brought new innovations and features that have significantly contributed to the modernization of enterprise software and the overall success of SAP Fiori as a comprehensive design system.

SAP will continue to focus on enhancing the consistency and integration of Fiori’s user experience across its entire product portfolio. This effort will enable users to seamlessly navigate and interact with various SAP applications while enjoying a unified and intuitive interface. This vision will simplify the learning curve for new users and boost productivity for existing users.

Low-Code/No-Code Solutions

With the introduction of low-code/no-code solutions, such as SAP Build, SAP aims to make it easier for businesses to create custom Fiori applications that cater to their unique use cases. This approach will empower users with little or no programming experience to design, develop, and deploy their own Fiori apps, fostering a more agile and adaptive business environment.

These integrations will further enhance the productivity and user experience of Fiori applications by offering intelligent insights, automating repetitive tasks, and facilitating more effective decision-making processes.

Enhanced Mobility and Accessibility

SAP Fiori will continue to prioritize mobile and accessible design, ensuring that users can access their SAP applications from any device and at any time. Future enhancements will focus on responsive design, improved performance on mobile devices, and the adoption of emerging technologies that will make SAP Fiori applications even more accessible and user-friendly.

A journey of success ? for real ?

      • Right know from the 15842 Fiori apps. 11744 are either SAP GUI, WebDynpro or WebClient UI. So one decade after and still the 75% of the "Fiori App Library" aren't trully Fiori Apps
      • Having such a mix between Fiori technologies is a mess, confusing people all over the world. At the begging you had a few UI technologies, now you have 22 !. You can check it out in the filter of Fiori App Library.
      • A lot of customer, if not the mayority, is still using SAP GUI.
      • ECC support was supposed to end at 2025... now extended to 2030 I think.

IMO is not a success just like Webdynpro and SAP Portal wasn't a success, the only reason why SAP Fiori is still alive is because they invested so much on this.

Could not agree more. We run a greenfield implementation and there is not much fiori native apps used and only a few custom apps built so far. We run everything from Fiori Launchpad but almost all runs GUI apps in webdynpro.

The lack of Fiori apps in EWM is painful too.

Feels like SAP only wants to create new solutions to non existing problems to try and keep up with modern technologies only to forget the core platform. SD/WM/TM/PP/AM etc.

I go so far to say there is almost 0 fiori apps that lets you create or change stuff in the old modules. Only display apps or list apps that jump to old GUI t-codes.
