Getting started with SAP Field Logistics

Hi Everyone,

This is my first blog post on SAP. I have been working with SAP over the last decade and my experience has been mainly with upstream Oil & Gas industry and SAP Remote Logistics management(RLM).

With SAP RLM coming to its end of life & Field Logistics being its most probable replacement, I started finding information on this new product. I found that the necessary information is distributed at several places. The intention of this blog is to club all the available information & thus help to get a quick overview of the product.

I also plan to publish different blogs as part of this series to cover the functionalities within Field Logistics with focus on the on premise edition.

What is Field Logistics?

Field Logistics is a new S4 HANA product developed for Oil & Gas use case. The solution was developed as a public cloud solution & was recently released for the on-premise solution in 2022. The solution though replacing RLM, is built as a new solution & hence has differences from the RLM solution.

Field logistics doesn’t rebuild solution from the scratch, but is building the functions on top of existing solutions like finance, warehouse management, materials management etc.

SAP note 3046934 describes the details on the replacement of RLM by Field Logistics.

How to activate Field Logistics?

Field Logistics is made available in S4 HANA 2022 edition by means of a reversible business function.

Business Function Name : FIELD_LOGISTICS_OP

Where to find information on the new process and flows for Field Logistics:

Field Logistics processes are defined under below scope items. The details for the scope items can be viewed using the SAP Process Navigator

• 40G : Field Logistics Planning and Execution
• 4AH : Field Logistics Planning and Execution – Supplier Items
• 5OM : Field Logistics Planning and Execution – Direct Procurement
• 6BA :Field Logistics Planning and Execution – Containers and Voyages

Tip: Make sure that you are checking the correct version of the scope item : Cloud or On Prem.

The scope items contain details on the process flows, configuration guide, test scripts etc.

The SAP help portal provides functional overview of Field Logistics.
