The SAP CoPilot is gone! What now?

One of the most respected functionalities since the launch of SAP S/4HANA Cloud was the chatbot capability of SAP CoPilot. It has been SAP’s digital assistant and bot integration hub combining two distinct functionalities in one product: the human-to-human and the human-to-machine collaboration. It offers easy interaction with peers and business apps on mobile, desktop, iOS, and external channels through one single interface to help you keep up with tasks that need your immediate attention. This way, it enables efficient collaboration and thus, increases productivity and company performance. The optimized task management and team collaboration which the SAP CoPilot has contributed to, is crucial, in order to avoid poor customer and employee experiences which create a variety of issues such as:

  • Decrease in productivity for companies

  • Lower customer retention

  • Negative brand image

  • Frustrated employees

  • Lower productivity

  • Bad employee perception

The SAP CoPilot has served its purpose well, but it belongs to the past now. Going forward, we have a new product that covers the human-to-human chat functionality inside the SAP Fiori launchpad in SAP S/4HANA Cloud and SAP S/4HANA: the SAP Collaboration Manager. The first release happened with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition 2302, where the SAP Collaboration Manager replaces the SAP CoPilot in the 3-system landscape and offers comparable functionalities. The first release of the SAP Collaboration Manager in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition offers a seamlessly integrated collaboration experience directly inside the SAP Fiori launchpad. It increases overall user efficiency through in-place collaboration features such as creating chats with and sending documents supporting various image types and video links to your peers. Your co-workers receive the notification instantly and can begin to work on your request without any delay and system switchover. Additionally, the SAP Collaboration Manager helps you keep up with your daily tasks by letting you store notes in your own private thread that is only visible to you–all you need to do is create a chat with yourself. And once you’re ready to collaborate, you can invite participants, who will be able to see all the content and contribute as well. Made a mistake? No problem–edit your notes as needed or use the ‘Undo’ feature to recall messages and actions such as adding screenshots within a small timeframe of posting into the collaborative chat. A real gamechanger.

In the upcoming release in Q3/2023, we will offer a handful of new features that bring us close to feature parity with the former SAP CoPilot*. With SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition release 2308 (and the 2023 release of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition and SAP S/4HANA after that), you will be able to enjoy a lot more functionality, enhancing the chatting capabilities with context-relevant information. We will enable the SAP Collaboration Manager to recognize the complete business context through context awareness and allow you to trigger quick and easy interactions in our future release.

So, by simply navigating on a specific screen, e.g. a transactional step, with chosen selections, all of this will be available to the initiating party of the chat. This includes links, screenshots, objects, etc.

If you would like to learn more about these specific capabilities, which are planned and the roadmap going forward, please also check the Blog from Maria Silipo (https://blogs.sap.com/?p=1757930). Here you will also learn about differences of SAP Collaboration manager and the SAP CoPilot.

Human-to-Human vs. Human-to-Machine Collaboration

As stated above, the SAP CoPilot combined both human-to-human and human-to-machine collaboration. Our strategy going forward is to separate these functionalities and create two products which support each other on the SAP Fiori launchpad. The SAP Collaboration Manager is taking over the human-to-human collaboration, whereas the human-to-machine collaboration will be covered by the SAP Digital Assistant. Commercialization

We are offering the new SAP Collaboration Manager as part of our standard subscription license for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition. Here we follow the same principle we used for SAP CoPilot.

We are planning to handle this similar for our SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition customers with the release 2023. This way we hope, the benefits of the functionality become a central part of every implementation of SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

We are also planning to provide a price tag for SAP Collaboration manager, if the use is intended in an on premise deployment of SAP S/4HANA.

Stay tuned for the details to come.
