Planned Orders integration and execution with SAP Digital Manufacturing for Repetitive Manufacturing
Introduction
Planned orders play a crucial role in repetitive manufacturing, where production is based on quantity rather than order-based production orders.
This blog post will show you a detailed demo video of Planned Orders from SAP S/4HANA execution in SAP Digital Manufacturing and provide an in-depth understanding of how planned orders can be setup and executed in SAP Digital Manufacturing.
Demo
Planned Orders
Planned orders are used for manufacturing a specific quantity within a defined time frame, typically with simple routings that don’t necessarily change over time.
They can be integrated with SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA, enabling Planned Orders Download, and sending yield and scrap confirmations back.
The following features are supported:
- Order Download
- Yield & Scrap confirmation posting
- Goods Issue via backflush posting
Restrictions
Currently, there are certain restrictions in place for planned orders within SAP Digital Manufacturing:
- The order schedule isn’t downloaded from the ERP side
- Batch management for material isn’t supported
- Direct goods issue of components to the ERP system isn’t supported
- Order update from the integrated ERP system isn’t supported
Creating and Transferring Planned Orders
Planned Orders can be created in SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA at MD11 t-code and transferred to SAP Digital Manufacturing for execution via DRF.
To create Planned Orders manually, open MD11 t-code, inform a Planned Order Profile, select the material to be produced, select an MRP Area, inform Order Quantity and Start Date and press Enter, click “Schedule Planned Order” to Schedule it and save it.
Once saved, Planned Orders should be automatically transferred to SAP Digital Manufacturing and should be seen in Integration Message Dashboard (IMD) app, so they can be released in Manage Orders app and executed in POD.
To have planned orders properly transferred, the technical infrastructure between the integrated ERP system and SAP Digital Manufacturing must be set up using Application Link Enabling (ALE) and the Data Replication Framework (DRF) for the LOIPLO02 IDoc. For more information, see Data Replication Framework.
In addition, INBOUND PROCESSOR iFlow in SAP Cloud Integration must be activated. See Configure Inbound Processor iFlow and Configure Initial Parameters iFlow for more details.
Other key prerequisite includes creating and transferring beforehand all master data like material master records, BOM and Routing (optional), and Work Centers to SAP Digital Manufacturing.
Scrap Confirmations
Scrap confirmations are transferred from SAP Digital Manufacturing to SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA after an SFC has been scrapped in POD.
Proper configuration is needed, such as configuring COLLABORATION_PLANNED_ORDER_SCRAP_CONFIRMATION collaboration link with ERP_PLANNED_ORDER_SCRAP_CONFIRMATION collaboration directive for scrap confirmation.
Yield Confirmation
Yield confirmations are transferred from SAP Digital Manufacturing to SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA after an SFC has been completed in POD.
Proper configuration is needed, such as configuring COLLABORATION_PLANNED_ORDER_YIELD_CONFIRMATION collaboration link with ERP_PLANNED_ORDER_YIELD_CONFIRMATION collaboration directive for yield confirmation.
Conclusion
Planned orders in SAP Digital Manufacturing are essential for managing repetitive manufacturing processes.
By understanding the integration process, transferring planned orders, and managing yield and scrap confirmations, businesses can optimize their manufacturing operations and streamline communication between SAP Digital Manufacturing and SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA for repetitive manufacturing.
