Addressing Security Concerns for Moving to the Cloud
Over the past few years, there has been an explosion of organizations migrating to the cloud to unlock unlimited scalability and compute power. The adoption of the cloud is helping businesses become more agile and achieve more than ever before. Yet many organizations are still hesitant to bring their operations to the cloud, largely due to concerns surrounding security and compliance.
As you may be aware, all cloud providers work off a shared responsibility model, meaning that the cloud provider secures the infrastructure while an organization oversees securing data and workloads. So while the cloud may provide amazing security measures, it is up to the organization to configure their security and ensure that all services and apps have the appropriate security measures in place.
Moving to the cloud also poses some risks in the initial migration. Transferring large volumes of highly sensitive data from legacy systems can sometimes lead to data breaches. Also, configuring access controls for applications across different environments creates significant exposures as well.
For these reasons, some organizations have major concerns about moving their operations to the cloud. While these concerns are valid, there are solutions available to help mitigate these risks and alleviate concerns about cloud migrations. Once an organization has properly moved to the cloud with the correct integrations, it can rest assured that its important data and applications are more secure than with antiquated legacy systems.
The top cloud security concerns are data loss and leakage (69%) and data privacy and confidentiality (66%), followed by accidental exposure of credentials (44%).1
Among the key barriers to faster cloud adoption, survey participants mentioned lack of visibility (53%), lack of control (46%), lack of staff resources or expertise (39%), and high cost (35%) as the most significant negative factors.2
Cloud-based integration platform imposes dedicated security measures
Today, in part due to the popularity of cloud migration, integration platforms as a service (iPaaS) have seen rapid adoption across all sectors of industry. iPaaS services enable organizations to migrate to the cloud with more confidence due to the security measures in place that help businesses plan, manage, and meet all their security goals.
A cloud-based integration platform imposes dedicated security measures on the software vendor that hosts the platform, as well as on the customers who use the platform. An iPaaS provides your team with the visibility and control they need to help ensure your systems and applications are integrated correctly and stay secure. These imposed security measures help organizations, maybe much like your own, migrate and integrate with the confidence that data and systems are secure throughout the process and after deployment.
