Before we lead others, we need to learn to lead ourselves.

Difficult isn't it? At least for me.

But what is self-leadership anyway?

Simply saying, leadership is the power to influence others. Self-leadership is the ability to lead ourselves.

But how?

By discovering who we are, what we can do, and where we want to go or be. Have the ability and resilience skills to deal with all changing situations (especially in such volatile times).

Understand what is going on with us, our triggers, and how to react to them —wisdom to deal with our shortcomings.

Not going with the flow, without planning. We need to know how to organize ourselves, prepare, have clear objectives, and, above all, take action toward our goals.

I have the following quote written on a board: “Dreams don't work unless you do” –  John C. Maxwell'

A simple phrase, but it had an impact on me because nothing happens until I make it happen.

Writing down the goals/plans is the easy part, and much easier is not doing it. And this is where self-leadership comes in: When we are in control of our actions and have the ideal tools to achieve what we proposed to do.

After all, leaders should also lead by example. If leaders are not clear about what they want, how would it be possible for them to lead?
