Process mining is the use of data mining techniques to extract knowledge from event logs in order to improve business processes. This can include identifying bottlenecks, discovering inefficiencies, and detecting compliance issues. The goal of process mining is to provide a holistic view of how a business process is currently being executed, and to identify areas for improvement.
Task mining, on the other hand, is the use of data mining techniques to extract knowledge from event logs in order to improve the efficiency of individual tasks within a business process. This can include identifying which tasks are taking the most time, discovering which tasks are causing delays, and detecting which tasks are causing errors. The goal of task mining is to improve the performance of individual tasks within a business process, rather than the process as a whole.
In summary, process mining and task mining are both used to improve business processes, but they have different focus.
