With Solution Order Management, you can configure orders to suit the customers’ needs, covering items for sales, one-time and recurring services, projects and subscriptions. With the 2302 release of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition, we introduce some innovative new features to enhance the solution selling processes, simplifying the creation of solution orders which can be adapted to numerous customer scenarios and requirements. I’ve listed my top three highlights in the video below. In this Blog, we’ll look at the broader scope of the release, covering the following topics:

Integrating SAP CPQ with Solution Orders in SAP S/4HANA Cloud

Let’s start by looking in some more detail at the SAP Configure, Price, Quote integration with Solution Order Management in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition. SAP CPQ enables salespeople to create complex product configurations with tailored pricing and customized attributes with ease. The seamless pre-defined integration of SAP CPQ and solution orders in SAP S/4HANA Cloud is implemented via BTP Cloud Integration and encompasses the transfer of pricing and product configuration data via CPS, and master data replication via MDI. The new scope item titled Solution Order Quotation Management with SAP CPQ (6BV) has been created for which contains the standard mapping logic required for implementing the integration.

The integration enables salespeople to leverage the full set of CPQ capabilities to create customized quotes. In the SAP CPQ front end, the order is configured and calculated based on the selection of available attributes. Once the quote is confirmed by the customer and the order is placed, it is handed over to solution order management in SAP S/4HANA Cloud for further processing.  When the Solution Order has been processed, the status in CPQ is also updated to show that the order has been placed for fulfilment. The integration initially supports configurable and non-configurable sales and service contract products, with further product types to be added in future releases. Via the standard OData API, the initial creation, as well as read, update and delete operations are supported.

Support of Free-of-Charge Delivery in Solution Orders

Free of charge items can be included as part of sales orders and which are an important function for solution order specialists when selling solution bundles of different item types. Take for example the sale of a project, where certain goods are included as part of the agreement. Supporting free of charge items as part of solution orders means that a 100% discount can be applied on sales items simply by changing the item category in solution order management, and that the items are subsequently processed as normal sales items with invoicing indicating the 100% discount. Solution order specialists can create free charge of items for both configurable and non-configurable sales items, covering different item categories in solution orders. The general ledger is updated with profit and loss accounts; however, no entry is be made on accounts receivable for the free of charge item. The solution order progress is updated to depict the full process.

Returns Processing for Solution Orders

In the 2202 release of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition, we enhanced solution order management with accelerated customer returns functionality, enabling scope item BKP to support three new customer returns scenarios with reference to the solution order invoice. However, sometimes it is necessary for solution order specialists to process a return before invoicing, for example if the wrong item was delivered. Therefore, with the 2302 release, we enhance the returns capability of solution orders to enable returns processing to be initiated with reference to the sales order which was replicated from the solution order. This means it is no longer a pre-requisite to process invoicing before creating a customer return. An advantage of this enhancement is that it gives consistent pricing across the process chain of a solution order whilst enabling the creation of a single invoice for the original sales order along with the return order. The updated returns process can be tracked via the solution order progress monitor, which has also been updated.

Enhanced Pricing and Shipping Features in Solution Order Management

With the 2302 release of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition, we have introduced some new features in the manage solution orders app when working with sales items. Further attributes from the delivery control settings in the master data of the sold to or ship to party are now supported. With the 2302 release, solution order specialists can ensure that all sales items of an order are combined in one single shipment by maintaining the same delivery group ID of each item. Furthermore, the delivery priority of an item can also be defined in solution order management, meaning solution order specialists have more control of the delivery process in conflicting delivery situations. The third delivery enhancement gives specialists the ability to define whether goods can be shipped partially or not. These features giving solution order specialists more control of the delivery of sales items, helping them provide more tailored customer solutions.

Beyond shipping enhancements, the material price group has been made available on the sales item details. With this, you can select the product price group and determine customer-independent discounts and surcharges for the sales item. As all of the above attributes are already supported by the Solution Order API, it is possible to adapt them on the User interface for consistency.

Solution Order Insight Cards on the Home Page

To round of the blog, the final new feature I want to draw your attention to is the addition of solution order insights cards on the home page. Here, solution order specialists can view a visualization of the most important key performance indicators. The insight cards display key analytical information at a glance, displaying the top solution orders by net value, or sold to party for example. This makes it easier for solution order specialists to continuously track the performance of their solution order portfolio.
