Production Integration with Warehouse Management in SAP S/4HANA Cloud – Demo Examples

In this blog post I would like to highlight the differences in Scope Item 3DV: Warehouse Production Integration between IM-Managed and WM-Managed psa in a production process and the configuration steps that are necessary to be able to execute these processes. As a beginner you can quickly get into difficulties. Therefore, this blog should support you to be able to set up and test the process.

Scope Item 3DV: Warehouse Production Integration – IM-Managed PSA

First, let’s look at the IM-Managed PSA process and the corresponding configurations.

Scope%20Item%203DV%3A%20Warehouse%20Production%20Integration%20-%20IM-Managed%20PSA

Scope Item 3DV: Warehouse Production Integration – IM-Managed PSA

In our test example we have our final product TG20_SerialC_P and the components RM20 and TG20_SerialA. The components are in a WM-managed warehouse and need to be transferred to production storage location 101B. The final product is then placed into storage location 101B.

Demo Example:

We need to create a production order with the app „Create Production Order“.

App%3A%20Create%20Production%20Order

App: Create Production Order

We enter our material and production plant.

Production%20Order%20Create%3A%20Initial%20Screen

In total we will manufacture 2 of the material TG20_SerialC_P.

The warning indicates that the required components are not in stock.

In the tab “Goods Receipt” we enter our production storage location “101B” as location.

We can find here an overview of the components and from which storage location they are withdrawn.

As production step we have defined our work center “Assembly”.

Despite the warning, we release the production order.

After saving, the production order is created.

In the next step, we need to transfer the necessary components from our WM storage location to our production storage location in the “Stage Materials for Production” app.

App%3A%20Stage%20Materials%20for%20Production

App: Stage Materials for Production

We mark SLoc Level, enter our production order number in the “Production/Process Orders” tab and start the transaction.

Note: Selection Horizon for Reqmts date should/must be in the future.

Below we can see our missing components.

By selecting the two lines and clicking on “Replenishment Elements” and then on “Replenishment Proposals”, the replenishment will be proposed to us by the system.

In this step we have to mark the two lines below and click on “Stage”. But in order to see what happens in the background, we have to check “Menu -> Global Settings -> Dialog -> Display message log automatically”.

Now we need to go to the “Run Outbound Process – Production” app to provide our components to the production location.

We will now create Warehouse Tasks for this purpose.

The warehouse tasks must now be confirmed. For both components, fixed storage bins are assigned, control cycles are defined and now moved to the storage bin “PROD-SUPPLY”.

Since the TG20_SerialA material is serial numbered, we have to enter the serial numbers in our delivery.

Now we click on “Goods Issue”.

Next, we need to perform our production operations. To do this, we go to the “Confirm Production Operation” app.

App: Confirm Production Operation

We look for our production order and the corresponding operation. Then we click on “Post and Complete”.

This completes our Production Integration process with IM-Managed PSA with WM.

Settings for IM-Managed PSA:

First, let’s take a look at our Work Center. The most important part is the Supply Area. The PSA_01 is defined for an IM-managed PSA production process.

Configure%20Work%20Center

Next, we look at the app “Create Control Cycle for WM”. We define our Supply Area “PSA_01” for the material RM20 as well as for TG20_SerialA.

Configure%20Control%20Cycle

Configure Control Cycle for RM20

The important parameters are Destination and Source. As source we have our WM storage location and as destination our production storage location, which is IM-managed.

The next step is to define the Production Supply Area.

App: Maintain Production Supply Area

We mark the relevant line and have a look at the details.

The Storage Location is defined as 101B. This shows that this production supply area is located in 101B.

Under “Change Material App” in the “MRP 2” tab, it is important to enter 105W as the Production Storage Location. This indicates that this component will be supplied from this storage location for production. This step must be performed for both components.

Change%20Material%3A%20RM20

Change Material: RM20

These are the necessary steps that must be performed to accomplish production integration with an IM-Managed PSA.

Scope Item 3DV: Warehouse Production Integration – WM-Managed PSA

Next, let’s look at the WM-Managed PSA and the required configuration steps.

Next, we need to provide the necessary components from our WM storage location in the “Stage Materials for Production” app.

We check EWM Rel. Parts and EWM Pick Parts, enter our production order number in the tab “Production/Process Orders” and start the transaction. Note: Selection Horizon for Reqmts the date should/must be in the future.

Now we see our missing components.

By checking the two lines and clicking on “Replenishment Elements” and then on “Replenishment Proposals”, the system will propose a replenishment.

With that our Production Integration process with WM-Managed PSA with WM has been performed and completed.

Settings for WM-Managed PSA:

First, let’s take a look at our Work Center. The important thing here is the Supply Area. The PSA_02 is defined for a WM-Managed PSA production process.

Note: If you do not change the supply area, then in production order the wrong storage location will be found and the app stage materials for production will not work.

Configure%20Work%20Center

Configure Work Center

Next, we look at the app “Create Control Cycle for WM”. We define our Supply Area “PSA_02” for the material RM20 as well as for TG20_SerialA.

Important are the Destination and Source. As Source and as Destination we have our WM storage location, which is our production storage location.

Configure Control Cycle for RM20

Configure%20Control%20Cycle%3A%20TG20_Seriala

The next step is to define the Production Supply Area.

App%3A%20Maintain%20Production%20Supply%20Area

App: Maintain Production Supply Area

We mark the relevant line and look at the details.

Define%20Production%20Supply%20Area

Define Production Supply Area

The Storage Location is defined as 105W. This shows that this production supply area is located in the 105W.

Define%20Production%20Supply%20Area

Define Production Supply Area

Under “Change Material App” in the “MRP 2” tab, it is important to enter 105W as the Production Storage Location. This indicates that this component will be provided from this storage location for production. This step must be performed for both components.

Define

Change Material: RM20

Change%20Material%3A%20TG20_SerialA

Change Material: TG20_SerialA

We define for our final product “TG20_SerialC_P as Production Storage Location 105W.

Change%20Material%3A%20TG20_SerialC_P

Change Material: TG20_SerialC_P

In conclusion, both processes have their advantages and disadvantages. To what degree, which process is best suited for one, is individual. The process itself is the same, but there are some differences in the WM-Managed PSA. For example, no outbound delivery is created, but a Posting Change Item. The additional step Post Goods Receipt via an Inbound Delivery is also omitted.
I hope that I could bring some light into the darkness with this. Have fun testing!
