SAP%20BPC%20maintenance%20timelines

The purpose of this blog is to provide an update about the maintenance timelines for current releases of SAP Business Planning and Consolidation. We published the product strategy of SAP Business Planning an Consolidation in this blog.

With respect to our SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, version for the Microsoft platform, we have extended the maintenance window for version 10.1 until 30.06.2026. The adjustment of the maintenance window will not impact our overall planning strategy. If you would like to develop new planning scenarios, the usage of our strategic planning solution SAP Analytics Cloud should be your first choice.

For the SAP Business Planning and Consolidation product line, you may encounter various versions as depicted below:

Within the SAP Business Planning and Consolidations set of solutions, there are three main products:

  1. SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, version for the Microsoft platform
  2. SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, version for SAP BW/4HANA
  3. SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, version for SAP NetWeaver

For each product, the current product version is:

  1. SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, version for the Microsoft platform
    • SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 10.1, version for Microsoft
  2. SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, version for SAP BW/4HANA
    • SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 11.1, version for SAP BW/4HANA 2.0
    • SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 2021, version for SAP BW/4HANA 2021
  3. SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, version for SAP NetWeaver
    • SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 10.1, version for SAP NetWeaver

The maintenance windows for the current product versions are depicted below:

Product version Maintenance Product Availability Matrix
SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 10.1, version for SAP NetWeaver 31.12.2027 PAM
SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 11.1, version for SAP BW/4HANA 2.0 31.12.2024 PAM
SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 2021, version for SAP BW/4HANA 2021 31.12.2027 PAM
SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 10.1, version for Microsoft 30.06.2026 PAM

Please note that according to the SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (SAP BPC) Strategy:

  • “The maintenance of SAP BPC 10.1 for SAP BW 7.5 will continue until the end of 2027 followed by an optional period of extended maintenance lasting until the end of 2030” and
  • “The latest SAP BPC release, which supports the SAP BW/4HANA product line will be aligned with the SAP S/4HANA maintenance extension and will be maintained until at least 2040.”

Why is the mainstream maintenance timeline in PAM different from what is stated in the SAP BPC Strategy?

The SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 10.1, version for SAP NetWeaver leverages SAP BW instance SAP BW 7.5, is part of the mainstream maintenance until 2027. If customers require any additional support after 2027, they can use the maintenance extension (see SAP Maintenance Phases)

The SAP BW/4HANA product will be supported with a corresponding SAP BPC product version until 2040. Currently, the SAP BW/4HANA product version SAP BW/4HANA 2021 will be supported with the SAP BPC product version SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 2021, version for SAP BW/4HANA until 2027. As we approach 2027, we will share which version of SAP BPC for SAP BW4HANA will be available beyond 2027.

The mainstream maintenance for SAP S/4HANA is planned until 2040. The mainstream maintenance of the product version SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 10.1, version for SAP NetWeaver as part of the SAP BPC, add on for SAP S/4HANA deployment (so called SAP BPC as part of the Embedded BW) is planned until 2040 as well.

All information about our products, the maintenance of this products, product notes, etc. are part of our self-service oriented SAP Support Portal.

      Hi,

So, regarding this new change on the maintenance timeline of BPC:

      • Is Group reporting still the short-term bet for consolidation by SAP?
      • Is SAC still the sort-term bet for planninf by SAP?

Both tools are still not mature enough compared with BPC, but many customers where planning to move to this tools partly forced due to the short time end of the maintenance of BPC... Now, that the "game rules" has change which will be the correct path in short-term for customers?

If decision-making based on the multitude of variants around the solutions is already complex, with these changes in maintenance timeline strategy it becomes even more a headache...

      Regards.

      Thank you Matthias!

It is nice to read a stronger 2040 commitment for BPC as part of S/4, compared to your previous blogs.

This better protects past and ongoing BPC investments at some clients which have a leaner reference architecture without a BW/4.
