Step-by-Step Guide to Onboarding and Activating the Partner Cloud Test, Demo, and Development for S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition

The offer

In June 2022 SAP introduced a new Test, Demo and Development offering for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition available to all our partners that would like to try this out in a dedicated environment that can be subscribed following the procedure published in the Partner Portal.

The Cloud test, demo, and development for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, one-system landscape allows you as partners to

  • demonstrate SAP S/4HANA Cloud,
  • evaluate new scope items and add-ons,
  • utilize the available key-user extensibility
  • try and develop using the newly released embedded ABAP Cloud (developer extensibility) experience
  • educate in-house consultants.

This instance could also be used by Independent Software Vendors to configure and test the interoperability with their solutions developed on the SAP Business Technology Platform, or 3rd-party Cloud Platform and the embedded SAP S/4HANA Cloud, ABAP environment.

What’s included?

The instance includes the components listed below together with a short explanation:

  • SAP Identity services which include:
    • SAP Identity Authentication Service (IAS) to create and maintain users for SAP CBC and SAP S/4HANA Cloud.
    • SAP Identity Provisioning Service (IPS) to synchronize users between IAS and the managed systems.
  • SAP Central Business Configuration (CBC) used to activate and configure the two SAP S/4HANA Cloud tenants. The activation includes the scoping, finance settings and organizational structure.
  • SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition with one system and two separate tenants
    • Partner Demo Customizing Tenant for all the configuration, test and demonstration activities.
    • Partner Demo Development Tenant where the newly released ABAP Cloud environment is available for development. The development requires a local installation of Eclipse and ABAP Development Tool.
  • SAP Cloud ALM that can be optionally requested to test, validate and demonstrate the implementation and operation functionalities provided to support the application lifecycle management.

How do I activate it?

With the introduction of the new Cloud test, demo, and development for SAP S/4HANA Cloud one-system landscape the provisioning and activation process has been significantly changed.

The same changes have been introduced later on with the release of 3-System Landscape in September 2022 also to customers.

To set up your environment, the provisioning process must be triggered using SAP for Me (for customer) where you will find the entitlements after the order. As SAP is not automatically deploying the tenants (except for the SAP Business Technology Platform), you need to initiate this process.

Once your entitlements are provisioned, a series of steps to activate and setup your test, demo, and development environment have to be followed.

Setting up your SAP Central Business Configuration and SAP S/4HANA Cloud tenants requires a series of activities, such as: replicating the admin user and additional users from SAP Identity Authentication Service, creating SAP Central Business Configuration projects for both SAP S/4HANA Cloud tenants, scoping your solution, setting up or confirming the organizational structure and activating the selected scope.

Afterwards additional SAP S/4HANA Cloud business users can be onboarded.

Important to keep in mind, that while managing users in SAP CBC and SAP Cloud ALM is done via SAP Identity Authentication Service and SAP Identity Provisioning Service. In SAP S/4HANA Cloud there is an additional step, and you will need to first create an employee using the Manage Workforce Fiori app in SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

How can you help me?

In SAP I am part of a team called Partner Solution Adoption, and our main task is to help you as SAP Partners to adopt our latest solutions and innovations in the SAP S/4HANA Cloud space.

There is even better news for you: I am not alone; there are many other SAP S/4HANA Cloud specialists working around the world in the same team and having the same mission of supporting you. In the next chapter you will find how to ask for support in this specific topic.

Now coming back to the Test, Demo and Development: my colleagues and I created have created video tutorials to help you throughout this multi-step process. You can access all of the videos from the following links:

  1. Provisioning process overview available here.
  2. Part 1: SAP for Me and initial system provisioning to guide you in the initial request to provision the different components included in this offering
  3. Part 2: Identity Authentication / Provisioning services (IAS/IPS) and SAP Central Business Configuration (CBC) setup to discover how to perform the initial setup of users in SAP IAS/IPS and how to create first users for SAP CBC.
  4. Part 3: SAP Central Business Configuration (CBC) tenant activation to learn here how to create a new project in SAP CBC and activate your S/4HANA Cloud tenants including demo data.
  5. Part 4: Initial user setup in SAP S/4HANA Cloud to create additional users in S/4HANA Cloud and in SAP IAS to enable the access to your activated tenants.
  6. Part 5: SAP Cloud ALM onboarding and activation to discover how to request and perform the initial setup of SAP Cloud ALM.

      Hi,

I have followed the activation guide according to the instructions indicated in the article SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition - Demo and Development System (TDD) Onboarding Process Tutorials & Instructions,In the tenant we are not seeing this sample date?

Can this happen because the scope for Colombia is activated?

We have already carried out the deployment in the tentant Customizing and Development and in neither of us I ask if we wanted to load the example data, is there a way to upload sample data manually? Where can we find this information to upload it?

      Thanks

Q: Does my system come with sample demo data?
A: During the process of assigning a deployment target (your SAP S/4HANA Cloud tenant) in SAP Central Business Configuration, you can decide if you want your selected scope to be activated with sample demo data. This decision can be done only once and cannot be reversed. If you have already activated the scope in your SAP S/4HANA Cloud tenant without selecting the demo data option, there is no possibility to repeat the activation with demo data. In such case, no additional scope can be activated with demo data in the same deployment target either. The selection to go with or without demo data is possible per deployment target. You can choose to activate a scope with demo data for one deployment target and without for another.
In the case, you had already activated a scope without demo data in both of your SAP S/4HANA Cloud tenants, you need to subscribe to a new license which will give you a new entitlement you can provision.
Demo data is available for all the SAP S/4HANA Cloud country versions.
Please note, that demo data is created automatically only for those scope items which are part of the SAP S/4HANA Cloud – Enterprise Management scope bundle.
Please note, some additional manual steps are required to achieve lifecycle enablement of the demo data. This ensures consistency of the demo data when an upgrade or update to a higher release or patch level is performed.
 In order to perform the required manual steps, please follow the guide attached to this SAP Note
Demo data can be created also manually, using the respective SAP Fiori apps in your SAP S/4HANA Cloud system. An overview of the demo master data by Scope Item is provided in the Master data overview excel:
       Master Data overview
Another way to create master data is to use Data Migration Template samples. There are Migration Cockpit template files prefilled with sample data that you can use as an example.

When did you performed the activation?

The functionality to add Sample Data has been released end of December last year so in case you activated the tenants before it would not be available.

If you followed the instructions in the Onboarding guide, and the system load master data. The question is focused on example transactional data understanding that the demo instance already brings ready-made information to be able to present a client immediately without the need for additional configurations or should additional configurations definitely be made in the system to have transactional data?

Demo Data is mainly covering master data. Transaction data can be created in the system after the initial configuration is done.

      Hi Alessandro Sabidussi!

thanks for sharing. What if the deployment progress bar hangs on 90% even after a day of waiting? Is there a way to restart deployment or get any logs to see where the process runs into error? If i use the navigation in Deployment Targets via "Go To" button to the assigned system i run into an error message saying that the app could not be loaded.

Any advice how to fix this?

      Hello,

do you see an error in the top right corner showed as a notification?

If it's stuck for so long there is probably an error and the notification would tell you how to proceed. In some cases you will see that an incident is automatically create while in others the message will ask you to create an incident under a specific component so our support team can follow-up.

      Hi,

thank you for fast response. Actually it was an error, after raising a support ticket the support team clarified that there was an SAP upgrade running which caused the deployment error.

      Regards,

      Nils

      Dear Alessandro Sabidussi!,

thanks for the summary. I have followed step1 , the System for CALm and CBC are provided. After getting the email from SAP for my user I could register and see my profile in the administration. But after getting the link to IAS and IPS and I connected with IAS, nothing was shown accept this message:

You entered a valid URL, but you are not authorized to view the content; contact your system administrator.

      What can I do?

I cannot see where I need additional rights...

      Regards

You might already have SAP Identity Authentication Service (IAS) and SAP Identity Provisioning (IPS) as part of the SAP Cloud Identity Management. In this case, the IAS and IPS tenants are not provisioned again.

Your S/4HANA Cloud tenants will be integrated to the existing IPS tenants, and you will not receive the described hand-over email. You can use the following “SAP helper app” to check for your existing tenants – it requires an SAP s-user to determine your logical partner entity to derive tenant and stored administrator information: https://iamtenants.accounts.cloud.sap/

In case you still have technical issues with SAP IAS and IPS, please create a support ticket under SAP support component “BC-IAM-IDS”.

Hello 🙂 and thank you for the blog.

I am missing manage workforce app. I created the roles based on templates. I had only three templates and there was no hr_admin* available.

Do you now a way to get the app?

      Thank you

You can get the app by creating a new role from template and select SAP_BR_ADMINISTRATOR as a template. Then assign the new role created to your user and login again.

There is already a role created with a similar name but it does not contain the required authorisations for the Manage Workforce app.

      Hello Alessandro,

found the problem. Initial transport from CBC was not in the system - so that is why the role template was not available.

      Hi Alessandro Sabidussi!

Thanks for the blog. This is really helpful. I have completed all the steps by creating a project for my Development tenant and made the necessary configurations based on the steps in the videos.

I had a couple of questions:

      1. How do i access the data in the demo tenant or how do i create new records in the demo tenant for business partners or orders etc. Is there some other Ui to do that? Currently I am login into myXXXXX.s4hana.cloud.sap/ui#Shell-home
      2. How to access the developer modules (ABAP)

      Looking forward to your response.

      Hello Tyler,

thanks for the feedback. Here my comments to your questions:

      1. No there is no "special" way to access sample data or to create more. You can use the standard SAP Fiori app for each type of data and there you will see existing data and be able to create new.
      2. I recommend this missions to get started and connecting to the ABAP environment: https://discovery-center.cloud.sap/missiondetail/4036/4243/
