As many of our #UniversityAlliances professors and students know, SAP announced the availability of SAP Build at SAP TechEd in November.  SAP Build is the cornerstone of our low-code / no-code offering, and includes three solutions:  SAP Build Apps, SAP Build Process Automation and SAP Build Work Zone.  These solutions work together to offer citizen developers the opportunity to create professional apps, workflows and websites to support the business without the need to engage IT.  Technical developers can set guardrails to ensure consistency and alignment with best practices, and they too can use these tools for quick projects.

Companies around the world are already using SAP Build - it is a smart skill for students to develop.  One example shared at TechEd is the National Hockey League (NHL).  The NHL used SAP Build to create a platform allowing them to measure and analyze the carbon footprint generated by its Clubs and arenas across various areas, including energy, water, waste, and recycling (video, announcement).

Many of our students will be these citizen developers.  Future business analysts will need these skills. There are limited developers available in companies (estimates indicate a 15% shortage by 2025) so development of business apps is being moved into the business unit.  Early talents interested in developer careers will also use low-code/no-code tools for some of their work to quickly launch apps (research indicates 33% of developers will use LCNC by 2025).  Now is the time for students to develop an SAP Build skillset!

The University Alliances team is launching community curriculum development projects to collaboratively create content / projects that can be used in the classroom.  All educators are invited to participate! Please reach out to learn more.

The great news is that you can already get started with SAP Build!

  • SAP Build Process Automation is available on the BTP Free Tier as a booster and BTP Trial

  • SAP Build Apps is available on the BTP Free Tier

The BTP Free Tier / BTP Trial are great tools to get started now.  The UA team is working on additional options that meet the academic needs of our global UA community.  More to come.

SAP Learning has already launched a low-code / no-code learning journey leading to certification as a SAP Certified Citizen Developer Associate - SAP Build Low-code/No-code Applications and Automations.

SAP Community has an active group of SAP Build practitioners sharing their experiences, creating learning content and much more!  I have found the newly launched SAP Builders Community to be incredibly helpful with my own low-code/no-code learning.  I've also found the Developers Tutorials useful to quickly ramp-up on specific capabilities.

UPDATE:

After I published V1 of this blog, @Daniel.wroblewski shared a few of his favorite getting-started resources:

I will be adding more great SAP Build resources in upcoming days so check back!  Do you have SAP Build resources and examples?  Share in the comments.  Do you have ideas on where SAP Build can be used in your classroom?  Lets talk!
