SAPUI5: What’s New and when is it Coming?

SAPUI5 versions for latest innovations and patches

SAPUI5 is constantly innovating with new capabilities and at the same time providing patches for delivered releases. For details see the version concept as well as the SAPUI5 maintenance strategy and SAPUI5 Versions Maintenance Status summarized here.

SAPUI5 provides a consistent user experience across SAP’s products in cloud and on-prem. Different products have different requirements with regards to updating SAPUI5: Cloud customers expect that updates are handled by SAP (e.g. on SAP BTP) to always have access to the latest capabilities of SAPUI5. On-prem customers upgrade their systems on their own schedule.

What’s New for SAP Business Technology Platform

Customers of cloud solutions can now learn about new SAPUI5 versions ahead of time:

The What’s New for SAP Business Technology Platform now shows when the latest SAPUI5 version is planned to be consumed by SAP BTP products approximately one week before this takes effect. As of January 2023, we plan to announce the new SAPUI5 version on the day of its actual release, i.e. about two weeks before the planned day of consumption by SAP BTP.

This entry links to the What’s New section of the SAPUI5 Demo Kit with detailed information on the specific version, grouped into: Preview and Announcements, Improved Features, Improved Controls, Deprecations, and SAP Fiori Elements. It also links to the Change Log with notes for each library.

What about on-premise? How do we know what the latest UI5 patch level is for on-premise?

The link you provided here does not indicate patch versions.

example: is 1.108.9 the latest or 1.108.10?

      Is there even a 1.108.10?

      Can't find that information anywhere.

      Hi Ramin,

SAPUI5 patch versions you can see listed at the bottom of https://ui5.sap.com/versionoverview.html and at the top right corner of https://ui5.sap.com/

Regarding on-prem, please see the 'SAP_UI version' and 'Front-end Server' columns in https://ui5.sap.com/versionoverview.html

      Regards,
      Oliver

      Hi Oliver,

I guess my question wasn't clear, I'm looking for patch versions for on-premise.

The two columns you are referring don't show patch versions. And the bottom table is only for BTP, it does not indicate on-premise.

What patch version of 108 can we upgrade to in our on-premise systems?

      Thanks

      Hi Ramin,

right, sorry for that. There are two options for implementing an SAPUI5 patch to an on-prem system:

Option a) Update an SAP_UI Support Packages

Option b) Download an individual SAPUI5 patch (and only that). Note that the patch needs to fit to the version of the current SAP_UI software component.

Thanks Oliver. I bookmarked SAP Software Downloads - SAPUI5 so I can tell my clients what the latest version is for download when they ask. I would have never found it by myself.

It will still be years before our public-sector clients go to cloud.

      Thanks.

      .

For SAPUI5 version 2.0, I saw the UI5con presentation. Will it remove jquery? Or is is just removing deprecated code / dependencies, and only using asynchronous JavaScript? Will we be able to use JavaScript import instead of the current define to load modules?

Hi Jerome, we're working on implementation and delivery plans and will communicate more details soon, also in SAP Community. Stay tuned and thanks for your patience...
