SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition and SAP S/4HANA 2022 Highlights
As you surely read in Sven Denecken‘s product launch blog the 2022 release of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition, and SAP S/4HANA is here.
The 2022 Release of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, and SAP S/4HANA brings innovations to all Lines of Business. Many of them are available in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition already, since we have one code line for all SAP S/4HANA deployment modes.

In addition to this launch video, Lena Stodal hosted Christian Vogler and myself for an Community Call ran a couple days after the RTC of the solution.
We have summarized the key innovation per areas here.
A key innovation to mention is related to digital transformation, and here we have now the In-house banking for corporations.
In-house banking for SAP S/4HANA for advanced payment management (in-house bank) is an embedded capability of advanced payment management. It allows you to create an internal bank on the corporate side. Within this internal bank, subsidiaries or departments that are part of the group or corporate can open or maintain internal bank accounts. From the subsidiary perspective, these accounts are house bank accounts and can be used in the same way as the external house bank accounts.Christian Vogler
The predictive material and resource planning is a key component in the digital transformation of your manufacturing company, and with this 2022 release, we extend the PIR (planned independent requirements) creation for non-MRP materials and non-MRP Kanban Materials in pMRP (predictive material and resource planning).
With this feature, you can:
- Make use of pMRP simulation results to size Kanban control cycles also for non-MRP relevant materials
- Create proposals for the number of Kanban containers and the quantity for each Kanban container on the basis of simulative planned independent requirements
The second innovation is about the user experience in the capacity planning, and we have now a faster decision-making with the new SAP Fiori app “Capacity Scheduling Board”.
This app was previously known as Monitor Work Center Schedules. With this app, you get an overview of the operations performed at your work centers by visualizing their schedules over a time period. Pacemaker work centers are critical as they help determine the schedule of an order. You can use this app to plan optimum utilization of pacemaker work centers by matching their capacities with those of the orders that have to be dispatched.
# SUPPLY CHAIN
In Supply Chain, the bar of business has risen. You will have expectations, demands, and competition. With the SAP Artificial Intelligence, you have a comprehensive and transformative Intelligence to immediately optimize every aspect of your business.
Let’s take one example here in extended service parts planning (eSPP), as part of the supply chain, you can use forecast profiles, forecast models, and forecast strategies.
In extended service parts planning, we have now the forecast with gradient boosting of decision trees model. The gradient boosting of decision trees (GBDT) forecast model is now used in demand planning when several external conditions are to be considered during the forecast calculation. For example, the average temperature during certain time periods, the price, etc which will lead to increased accuracy.
The second example in the SAP Artificial Intelligence area is in sales order management and processing, and here we have the automatic sales order creation from unstructured data.
With the “Create Sales Orders – Automatic Extraction” app, it is possible to create sales orders from uploaded purchase order files. The system automatically extracts purchasing data into a sales order request and proposes values for sales order request fields. You can later convert the sales order request into a sales order. This automated process reduces the manual effort required to create sales orders from unstructured data, like PDF files.
And of course, you can use a bot from the SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Factory to automate the creation of sales order requests from email attachments.
# ASSET MANAGEMENT
SAP Plant Maintenance helps you to optimize the scope of work and effort required for inspection, maintenance, and planned repairs of your technical systems, and supports you in reacting quickly to reported malfunctions.
Now with this 2022 release, we bring material searches for planners through external catalogs with the open catalog interface. This simplifies the planning process for selecting parts and services from open catalogs using capabilities that are compliant with the most secured open catalog interface (OCI) 4.0., and improve the collaboration between maintenance planners, buyers, and suppliers.
In-house repair has been enhanced by an optional diagnosis that can be charged to the customer. Diagnosis related repair order items are managed in the same way as repair related ones.
The in-house repair process provides core activities for repair and maintenance, such as prechecking, quotation processing, diagnosis, repairing, and triggering billing for the repair objects.
In this new process, we also support customers with their digital transformation, moving to next generation of business processes with SAP S/4HANA, and in this case leveraging situation handling.
The new SAP Fiori app “Manage In-House Repairs” uses situation handling to inform specific users about the following situations:
- An in-house repair has not been confirmed within a defined number of days after its creation.
- Processing of an in-house repair took longer than expected.
Using automatic notifications, you can navigate to the critical in-house repairs directly and take the appropriate action.
# SOURCING AND PROCUREMENT
In purchase order processing, we increased transparency and enablement of intercompany processes for sales and procurement.
This innovation is related to the Advanced Intercompany and we have here an enhanced process efficiency
When the sales order is saved, the system automatically creates an intercompany purchase order in the selling company for all items relevant for advanced intercompany sales. If the goods are to be sourced from different plants, multiple purchase orders are created. For this step, the quantity of the sales order item must be at least partially confirmed in the delivering plant.
And subsequently, in the delivering company, the system automatically creates an intercompany sales order per purchase order.
# PRODUCT COMPLIANCE
I like to continue with this Advanced Intercompany process, and in product marketability and chemical compliance we deliver now the product compliance integration for advanced intercompany sales process.
The system carries out checks in the documents created within this process and sent safety data sheets with the delivery if required.
We have also here a system verification, and if products are classified as dangerous goods, we have checks whether transportation of a product is allowed, forbidden, or restricted.
One more innovation in product compliance:
Logistics integration with dangerous goods checks in rail, ocean and air cargo freight bookings. This prevent the execution of transports containing noncompliant products, as we have a checking of all compliance-relevant products to determine whether rail, ocean or air cargo transport processing is allowed as it relates to dangerous goods regulations.
Innovation Along Key Industries
# AEROSPACE AND DEFENSE
In the industrial manufacturing or in the aerospace and defense industry, you use the project SAP Manufacturing Management and Optimization (PMMO) in the project-based production environment.
You can combine material requirements from multiple work breakdown structures (WBS) elements (across several projects or plants) into one or more grouping WBS elements for common inventory management and material requirements planning (MRP). Therefore, you can achieve greater efficiency and cost savings when procuring material.
Now with this 2022 release, we have a new SAP Fiori app for the recording of pegging assignment history and display assignments history with improved traceability of changes.
# OIL AND GAS
A digital-age user experience allows people to do what they do best: be innovative and creative. With this release, we have an SAP Fiori based application allowing hydrocarbon analysts to manage production allocation runs and leverage the one-stop shop for all data related to production allocation.
You can view the details of allocation results for all the production networks that have already run allocation and approvals, if required. For each allocation run you can also view the associated master data, such as network structure and production network rules, and transactional data, such as measurements, well tests, deferment events and so on.
# PUBLIC SECTOR
We now move to Public Sector industry, with an other example digital-age User Experience in the Discover Taxpayer Behaviors area. You can use the SAP Fiori app, At-risk customers overview, to analyze scenario trends, collections success, and intelligent clusters of customers.
Behavioral Insights allows organizations, such as government agencies and companies to analyze the behavior of customers and to generate risk scores and insights for multiple scenarios. It provides an expanded overview of events, which enables the organization to perform an efficient and reliable analysis of the customer, so that they can make informed decisions and take appropriate action.
This innovation leverages Artificial Intelligence, as Behavioral Insights uses the S/4HANA framework Intelligent Scenario Lifecycle Management (ISLM) to train and predict machine learning outcomes.
