Have you ever wondered if your reporting rules are working how you expect?

In SAP S/4HANA Finance for group reporting, reporting items and reporting rules are super useful features to help you out with all your analytics needs. You use them in reports to enable flexible data selection and aggregation. Reporting items are used as analytical dimensions that you enhance by assigning them selection criteria, such as FS items, consolidation units, document types, and subitems. Reporting rules are these assignments of selection criteria, so they determine how the values for a reporting item are derived in a report. As a result, when you use your reporting items in an analytical app, values for the reporting items are calculated by aggregating the values from the selection criteria that you’ve defined in the reporting rules.

So, there’s some intricate logic happening behind the scenes when you use reporting items in a report. That’s exactly what makes reporting items and reporting rules such powerful tools in analytics. But this also means that you may start to wonder if this logic is actually working as you expect.

You may start to ask yourself “Can I trust these values that are being calculated for my reporting items? Are they really being calculated how I expect according to the reporting rules that I’ve defined? Is there any way to test these reporting rules to verify this aggregation of values for my reporting items?”

Yes, there is! We’ve made two new video tutorials that show you how to test your reporting rules to check the aggregation of values for your reporting items. By following the steps in the tutorials, you can verify that this aggregation aligns with what you’ve defined in your reporting rules. These videos should provide some insight into your reporting rule setup and troubleshoot any unexpected results you may have concerns about.

The first video shows you how to verify the aggregation of values for a reporting item if you’ve assigned a range of FS items to the reporting item in its reporting rules. The second video shows you how to verify this aggregation if you’ve assigned an FS item selection attribute to a reporting item in its reporting rules.

If you’re already familiar with creating reporting items, setting up reporting rules, and using them in reports, then feel free to go straight ahead to the videos. If not, then maybe check out the basics on the following pages before watching the videos:
