This past September, SAP hosted the ElevateHER Pitch Challenge during the Grace Hopper Celebration 2022 in Orlando, Florida. SAP sponsored a Level-Up Lab Workshop, with the intent of supporting participants as they masterfully crafted their own elevator pitches. The workshop was held in a large, group setting, with the intent to teach conference participants a skill by way of a hands-on and informative setting.

The SAP Chief Trust Office decided to tackle the infamous and prevalent personal elevator pitch as the topic for the skill building workshop. The goal was to help attendees network and walk the Career Expo floor with added confidence and charisma, as they shared highlights and accomplishments from their professional career journeys.

With his backdrop, SAP Chief Trust Office developed the Pitch Challenge and infused elements of gamification for added engagement and interaction. The idea was to make time for attendees to share, listen and learn from each other. Winners were self-selected among each breakout group, and by the end of the workshop – we were presented with champions for the SAP ElevateHER Pitch Challenge. In the end, 420 individuals participated in the workshop. The group identified ten winners who received prizes for their efforts and pitch mastery.

Since 1994, the annual Grace Hopper Celebration is the largest convening of women in computing worldwide. The meeting celebrates Rear Admiral Grace Hopper of the United States Navy, for being a pioneer in the field of computer programming. The meeting, which spanned three days, serves as an homage to the innovations and contributions women have made to the field of computing, research and technology. It also aims to serve as a safe space for women, nonbinary technologists and allies to gather to learn more, distill information and inspire future generations to pursue interests and careers in technology.

The workshop went smoothly and participants were engaged as they participated in the pitch challenge. The next day, I had several workshop attendees stop by the Career Fair where SAP hosted a booth. The guests had a chance to show off some of the techniques they learned from the workshop the day before. With fantastic additions to the SAP talent community, I consider the event was a roaring success and I was proud to be a part of it.
