Partially compounded display keys in SAP Analytics Cloud

What is a compounded dimension?

A compounded dimension has one or more compounding parents. For example, if we are talking about a cost center this might not be uniquely identifiable. Only if we tell which country and region the cost center is in, this starts to make sense. But if we know the context because we have set a filter on the country this information might be redundant.

When do I get that?

In SAP Analytics Cloud the full compounded value was always shown when displaying the ID for a dimension. With the upcoming QRC3 2022 release, the uncompounded display key is also supported!

How does it work?

The level of compounding can be influenced by either setting a story filter, page filter or widget filter on the compounding parent dimension.

Setting%20filters%20to%20set%20the%20level%20of%20compounding

Setting filters to set the level of compounding

Setting a filter on the country will then remove the country part of the compounding from the display.

Setting%20additional%20filters%20to%20further%20reduce%20the%20level%20of%20compounding

Setting additional filters to further reduce the level of compounding

Setting a filter on the Region shows the non-compounded display key.

This new feature can be used in various widgets and parts of SAP Analytics Cloud. Basically, everywhere an ID can be shown for the dimension members. For example, the Dynamic Text widget.

Add the dimension to the widget (Dynamic Text) and change the display to ID. According to the filters set, the partially compounded display key will be shown.

Another example would be hyperlinks. If the link is set to use the “ID”, it is also using the partially compounded key.

Ok great, I want to have that! How can I get that feature?

To make use of it you need to meet some prerequisites.

  1. Check your back-end
Your SAP BW backend must have the note 3159902 Please also see the Support Matrix.
  2. Enable Optimized View Mode (OVM) / Optimized Design Experience (ODE)
Your story needs to be in OVM to be able to see the partially compounded display key. To be able to see the partially compounded display key in design time, ODE must be activated.
  3. Enable the feature within the Admin area via the toggle: “Enable un-compounded display keys”
