SAP’s UI Technologies enabling Google Workspace

Google and SAP partnered to allow customers to connect core SAP software designed for running all mission-critical processes in the cloud with the collaborative capabilities of Google Docs and Google Sheets to innovate how work gets done across the enterprise.

Google Workspace enables teams of all sizes to connect, create and collaborate – to drive innovation from any device and any location. Specifically, Google Docs and Google Sheets, integrated with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, will enable new business capabilities, use cases and opportunities for collaborative tasks. See details in this Press Release.

What are the new capabilities?

SAP data from all important UI tables can be exported to Google Workspace which allows customers to connect core SAP software operations in the cloud or on-premise with Google Sheets. A ‘File Browser’ dialog is available and offers the user a possibility to browse Google Drive and decide on the preferred location for the table export. In general, Google’s “My Drive”, “Shared drives” and “Shared with me” are supported.

After exporting, the data is displayed in Google Sheets and the user can use all Google Sheets capabilities to continue the work with the SAP data including collaborative tasks e.g. sharing it with others.

Exported data in Google Sheets

An export of PDF (Portable Document Format) to Google Drive isn’t yet supported but planned for future releases.

  • Maximize workflow efficiency with documents
  • Export SAP UI tables data to Google Sheets for further processing
  • Select a Google Drive folder as location
  • Work in a collaborative way with your SAP data
  • Use Google Sheets capabilities to present SAP data

When and where can Google Workspace integration be used in SAP S/4HANA Cloud and on-premise?

In tables showing application data use the export button to launch this capability. SAP’s UI technologies support this integration starting from:

  • SAPUI5: SmartTable: SAPUI5 version 1.102 running in SAP Fiori launchpad
    • SAP Launchpad service on SAP BTP isn’t yet supported
  • SAP Fiori elements: SAPUI5 version 1.102 running in SAP Fiori launchpad

These capabilities are available in SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2208 and SAP S/4HANA on-premise 2022, see the What’s New information.

SAP S/4HANA on-premise 2022 customers using hub deployment with SAP Fiori front-end server for SAP S/4HANA (FES) must upgrade the SAP Fiori front-end server to at least SAP_BASIS 7.52 SP11 to be able to use the Google Integration.

The SAP Document Management Service on SAP Business Technology Platform is used as repository and to manage the document in Google Workspace. For more information on how to set up and configure your system, see Integrating with Google Workspace.

The Google Workspace integration offers an out-of-the box export of S/4HANA table data to Google Workspace via SAP Document Management Service.
