Who does not know them, the pictures of the floating plastic carpets in our oceans. An estimated 4.8 to 12.7 million tons of plastic enter the world's oceans every year, threatening marine life and ecosystems. Our products and their packaging must become more sustainable. This is not only required by consumers, but also by official regulations such as extended manufacturer responsibility for the disposal and recycling of packaging materials.

The new cloud solution SAP Responsible Design and Production and SAP Enterprise Product Development provides companies with the necessary key figures:

What exactly is part of our products and their packaging?

How sustainable are the materials used?

How can we produce products with having producer responsibility always in mind?

The new episode of the SAPs Podcast series (german only) features SAP Responsible Design and Production and SAP Enterprise Development outlining how we will support companies to live up to their extended producers responsibility with the right key figures at hand.

Sustainable packaging, sustainable products – how SAP ensures better insights and reporting with  a sustainable data driven design process.

What exactly is part of our products and their packaging? How sustainable are the materials used? How can we produce products with having producer responsibility always in mind.? The new cloud solution SAP Responsible Design and Production and SAP Enterprise Product Development provides companies with the necessary key figures. In the new SAP Demo we proudly present the solution.

In order to be able to meet these requirements, companies need transparency and a reliable secure specifications database already in design from which they can determine key figures about the types, materials and characteristics of their products and packaging and use them for sustainable design development.

In the new SAP News Podcast, Uwe Kuersten, responsible for SAP Responsible Design and Production, presents the possibilities of the new solution and states clearly: "It's easy to dock the solution to existing systems and thus increase the sustainability of packaging - e.g. B. the proportion of recycled material or the recyclability of materials - along the entire value chain." Exact knowledge of product components is integrated: Podcast guest Petra Koepfer-Behncke, responsible for PLM product development for process industry at SAP, is developing a new SaaS solution for product specification management as part of SAP Enterprise Product Development. She explains: "The solution describes the exact composition of products along the value chain and provides answers to questions such as: 'How much plastic is in it, but even more important how much plastic should be there and how can raw materials such as plastic be substituted by other materials. "
