This Blog Post will give the overview on what is Vendor Account Group in SAP MM and How to configure it within the system.

This article will guide you through step-by-step procedure and will give you the complete idea on usage of Account Group for Vendor in SAP MM.

Vendor Account Group

Account group demonstrate certain properties & represents a collection of attributes that control the creation of master data.

Account Group controls:

  • The number ranges it can use – whether internal or external (user defined)
  • Field selection based on required/display/hidden/optional
  • Partner roles permitted
  • Whether vendor Sub Ranges & Plant Specific is permitted
Path: SPRO – Financial Accounting – AR & AP – Vendor Accounts – Master Data – Preparations for creating a vendor master data – Define Account Groups with Screen Layout
Tcode: OBD3

Select on any one of the line items and press the magnifying icon. If you want to create a new account group hit on “New Entries”.

Here you can see 3 options General Data/ Company Code/ Purchasing named under “Field Status” . for now we can see General Data and the same can be followed for different options. Click on General Data – Address

In the above page you can set different properties for each field whether it would be required/display/hidden/optional depending on the requirement.

In the next option you can define the field status depending on different company code.  Where each company code will portray a different set of fields depending on the requirement.

Note: SAP recommends to configure field selection based on company codes while configuring account group. The configuration of field status per company code can be used in the case of an exception.

Till now we have created account group and configured field status for each account group. Now let’s assign a number range to it.

Note: Creation of Number Range can be done in below path & Tcode

  • Path: SPRO – Financial Accounting – AR & AP – Vendor Accounts – Master Data – Preparations for creating a vendor master data – Create Number Ranges for Vendor Accounts
  • Tcode: XKN1

For Assignment to Account Group –

Path: SPRO – Financial Accounting – AR & AP – Vendor Accounts – Master Data – Preparations for creating a vendor master data – Assign Number Ranges to Vendor Account Group.
Tcode: OBAS

In the above image you can assign the created number range to it’s account group.

To configure a vendor at sub-ranges and plant level, but before that we need to understand what is sub range and plant level.

Vendor sub range & Plant: Let’s consider a situation where you have a vendor ‘X’ and you have maintained for a Purchasing Org: ‘YYYY’ for order currency “USD”. But the same vendor can also accept different currencies like INR, EUR, AED etc. and you have different plants as well for the respective currency let’s say 1000 for IN, 2000 for any European country and 3000 for any UAE country.

So, for that same vendor now you can create vendor sub ranges for 3 different countries IN, European, UAE and can assign respective order currency and partner functions to each one of those. Hope you have got some idea what is sub range & plant in vendor. If you want, I should create a separate blog for this you can let me know in the comment section!

Let’s get back to the configuration.

Path: SPRO – Logistics General – Business Partner – Suppliers – Control – Define Account Groups and Field Selection
Tcode: OMSG

Select any one of the line items. The below screen will appear.

Here you can configure the field status of Purchasing Sub- Range and Purchasing Plant for a particular account group as shown in the below image

For now, I will conclude this blog, the topic of partner schema at account group creation will be captured in next blog.

I hope from this article you have got the knowledge of what is account group in vendor master record and how to configure it.
