SAP Responsible Design and Production: what is the Declaration per CSU for France?

Today I’m bringing you SAP Responsible Design and Production, more precisely about France.

With SAP Responsible Design and Production, SAP supports you to manage fees related to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations and product packaging taxes.

Companies in France need to report the weight of packaging materials of goods that are sold to CITEO as well as to Non-Governmental Organizations on the progress of voluntary agreements. There are awards for more sustainable packaging and penalties for less sustainable packaging due to an eco-modulation system.

How about the requirements?

Based on the annual number of Customer Sales Units (CSU) placed in the French market, where CSU is a unit of packaged product which a consumer can buy separately from others, there are different declaration requirements.

According to the type of declaration, you need to submit annual reports and pay contributions.

SAP Responsible Design and Production focuses on the declaration per CSU. This is the type of declaration you need to submit in case your company places more than 500,000 CSUs on the French market per year.

The Declaration per CSU

For the declaration per CSU, the contribution fees are calculated based on the weight and types of packaging materials and the number of packaging units that are part of your sales.

Depending on the reduction of packaging use, on the use of more recycling materials, and awareness-raising campaigns, companies might be awarded with different bonuses, or penalties otherwise. Does it mean your company has to declare all types of packaging?

Not really. There’s a list with some types of packaging that you don’t need to worry about adding to the declaration, such as:

• Tertiary/transport packaging that is not supplied to households
• Secondary packaging that is not supplied to households
• Packaging elements belonging to a disposal group that contains at least 1 reusable packaging element
• Reusable packaging elements that don’t belong to an disposal group
