S/4HANA Trusted Authorization Review (STAR)

Successful journeys begin with a vision. Leaders of these journeys align themselves with trusted partners who support and provide guidance to achieve success.

In all aspects of this journey, we want to be a supportive partner to our customers ensuring that you always have the most reliable license utilization information and confidence to make the right decisions for your business.  Whether you are in the early planning stages or well into your digital transformation, the S/4HANA Trusted Authorization Review (STAR) Service will assist you no matter how large or complex your digital transformation journey may seem.

In this blog post I am highlighting how you can generate additional transparency through simulation and optimization of license requirements based on your current system data

Transforming towards S/4HANA and SAP’s cloud offerings means our customers are also moving to a simplified new license model. The classic Named User model of the ECC era with a variety of user types is not required anymore as we offer a simplified, new S/4HANA use type approach for On-Premise as well as a flexible Full Use Equivalent (FUE) metric in the SAP Cloud.  The S/4HANA user types are only required to directly access the S/4HANA Enterprise Management Functionalities while other products are licensed by their own respective product metrics.

A key element of moving towards SAP S/4HANA Enterprise Management is understanding how legacy SAP ECC On-Premise Named Users (NUL) relate and compare to the respective SAP S/4HANA Enterprise Management Users or Full User Equivalent requirements.

With the Authorization Object Analyzer (SAP Note 3113382), we assist our customers to simulate S/4 HANA user requirements based on the existing system landscapes and assigned authorizations of the current user population. This Analyzer supports the review of the users, roles, profiles, and provides a comprehensive understanding of the respective user type classifications.

The underlying logic is based on the authorization objects for SAP S/4HANA Enterprise Management and considers the majority of S/4HANA Enterprise Management (Core) authorizations, reliably providing results based on classic core usage.

For interpretation of the results and further analysis of engine usage and optimization recommendations, SAP offers a tailored S/4HANA Trusted Authorization Review (STAR). During the service SAP License Utilization Managers will work with your team to collaboratively review the current assessment and simulate potential optimizations.

In summary, with our Authorization Object Analyzer our goal is to empower our customers with a tool for an initial self-assessment of FUE requirements and to provide enhanced clarity and inspire trust with our accompanying S/4HANA Trusted Authorization Review (STAR) service to analyze complex scenarios and identify optimization potentials.

We are committed to fully support our customers in their understanding of their future licensing needs based on a their current, real-word use of SAP Software In short: SAP will continue its relentless pursuit of providing licensing transparency, predictability, and simplicity to our customers.

Falko

Sounds great Falko! Thanks for sharing.

I'm curious about the results and positively surprised about the level of transparency (showing the respective S/4 Usertype for each authorization)!

One question though: Does it also work with FIORI Apps?

      Hi Torben

If it does have underlaying core authorizations, it should. Happy to run a test with you...

Hi Falco, thank you for this useful blog post! My question is: when transitioning from S/4 on premise to RISE (and respectively from S/4 user types to FUE) - would it make sense to involve STAR service to understand the future FUE usage?

      Hi Natalia

Thank you for asking this valid question. In general the user licenses models between S/4 on premise and RISE are similar and therefore the change is smaller in comparison to a move from the classic ERP.

Meanwhile we have gone through several hundreds of engagements with customers and beyond the full transparency on the license overview the service has often resulted in an optimization of authorization assignment processes in the context of building the license understanding.

Therefore I would recommend customers who are moving from S/4 on Premise to RISE also considering the services and using the insights for their upcoming transformation.
