Introducing: SAP Companion – Your Adoption and Productivity Layer

In this ever-changing digital environment, wouldn’t it be great to have someone at your side to guide you through new processes, to whisper tips and tricks into your ear and to point out where to go and what to do? A companion whom you trust to inform you about changes and help you through tricky processes?

This is not wishful thinking anymore – it’s already reality!

One of the missions of SAP product adoption is a consistent, intelligent, personalized user enablement experience, with relevant product assets in the required languages.

SAP’s approach to fulfill this mission statement is clear and unambiguous – the SAP Companion.

Enabled users make digital transformations a success.

As part of SAP Enable Now, SAP Companion helps users drive their own enablement to make them more satisfied and productive.

SAP Enable Now is the key adoption and productivity driver for our SAP customers and their users and is a critical part of every SAP offering.”

SAP Companion in-application help

Maybe you’re thinking: “Wait, haven’t I heard this all before? What about Web assistant and Desktop Assistant?” Indeed these great components of SAP Enable Now have now been combined and rebranded into SAP Companion. This harmonization allows us to leverage the capabilities of both tools even more and offers SAP Companion as your adoption and productivity layer across the Intelligent Enterprise which underlines the commitment of SAP to best-in-class user adoption.

SAP Companion: Your Adoption and Productivity Layer

SAP Companion is the connective layer between business users across all functions and the underlying business processes which are based on the intelligent suite.

From the perspective of a software user, having in-application help available makes absolute sense. However, not everything users like is a good idea on a larger scale. So what about the enterprise level?

Digital adoption itself has spread rapidly across the world as seen in this graphic by the World Bank (World Bank. 2016. World Development Report 2016: Digital Dividends. Washington,

Was there not a product called "SAP Co-Pilot" announced about three or four years ago that was also supposed to be embedded in all SAP products and do the sort of things you describe above?

      Hi Paul,

thanks for your interest and comment. Actually, SAP CoPilot is an SAP product with a different focus. The SAP CoPilot focuses on conversational AI and helps users by providing answers to their typed questions.

SAP Companion has a larger scope, combining enablement content from different sources and delivering it in a contextualized way.

I hope this answers your question.

      Take care,

      Kristina

Interesting read! Having my question regarding "Contact support" in mind, another question comes to my mind. You are saying the "SAP Companion" should "help desk ticket prevention". Wouldn't it be better to integrate the "Contact support" function into "SAP Companion". Otherwise users might still jump to the "Contact support" function, or do I forget something?

      Hi Mark,

thanks for your question. Integrating the direct option to contact support is a great idea - this is already possible by using a link tile and adding the direct link to the preferred support ticket handling system. This is a flexible solution which also works for customers who would like to guide their users to an internal ticketing system first.

      Hope this answers your question.

      Take care,

      Kristina

Hi, This article talks about combining DA and WA to support SAP cloud applications, but I can't see any explicit mentions of On-Prem.  What is the situation with SAP Companion and On-Prem Enable Now?  If SAP Companion is cloud only, is Desktop Assistant still going to be an option for On-Prem?

      Hi Diane,

thank you for raising this topic. There are several points to make about OnPremise.

      1. OnPremise applications will continue to be supported with SAP Companion for desktop (former Desktop Assistant).
      2. SAP Enable Now OnPremise customers will continue to be able to use SAP Companion with the HANA version.

I hope this answers your questions, but if not please get back to me.

      Take care,

      Kristina

Thanks Kristina.  Do I understand On-Prem SQL with SAP Companion for desktop is a viable scenario?  (We don't have DA in place yet, but it is on our roadmap)

      Hi Diane,

yes, OnPremise SQL with SAP Companion for desktop would be a scenario. However, I would advise for you to switch to the HANA version if possible. We are planning to phase out the SQL version slowly.

      Take care,

      Kristina
