SAP Mobile Start is the new native entry point to the Intelligent Enterprise. Our aim is to provide this native entry point to a wide range of end-users. In this context, let me talk about the Yard Logistics Operator as mobile persona today and demonstrate, how the Yard Logistics Operator will benefit from using SAP Mobile Start in the daily work routines.

The Yard Logistics Operator as a Mobile Persona

The Yard Logistics Operator is responsible for all activities within the yard: Checking of incoming vehicles, shunting, loading of trucks and many more ad-hoc tasks are part of his daily work. Ensuring that all assets are in the right place at the right time is one of the main goals of the Yard Logistics Operator.

While working in the yard and moving container from the gate to the loading area, moving around trucks and trailers and transporting material from one place to another, the Yard Logistics Operator is a mobile persona by nature. To fulfil the tasks quickly and thereby ensuring that the logistical flow of the yard is maintained, real-time information availability is crucial for the Yard Logistics Operator. In a modern yard, mobile devices are the perfect support for any Yard Logistics Operator to conduct the daily tasks efficiently and in a convenient way.

Introducing SAP Mobile Start

SAP Mobile Start is the new native entry point to the Intelligent Enterprise on mobile devices. It provides users with an enhanced mobile access to SAP applications, web content, data, and news feeds to quickly address their daily work – anywhere and anytime.

Users can benefit from persona-tailored content, which will be easy to consume and optimized for mobile situations. SAP Mobile Start can be set up and configured to user needs by IT administrators. It allows users to stay up to date on mobile devices and act immediately on critical business situations. The app offers integration with business applications, enabling higher productivity, and is a key asset to help ensure business continuity directly from mobile devices.

Furthermore, SAP Mobile Start offers a deep integration with native mobile device capabilities such as widgets, notifications or spotlight search.

Integration of SAP Task Center

With Task Center integration in SAP Mobile Start the user will have access to all workflow tasks in one screen. Tasks can be processed with just one click and now the user no longer needs to install numerous inboxes from various applications. This will reduce the time spent by approvers and improve the approval time for critical items. By providing a dedicated screen to access the tasks and notifications, the user has one place to easily process all their “to-do”s.

My colleague Ivan Chaushev describes all details regarding SAP Task Center in his blog post.

Improving the Mobile Experience for Yard Logistics Operators

SAP Mobile Start as the native entry point to SAP allows the Yard Logistics Operator to access all relevant mobile applications easily. Conducting the self-check-in, performing a Yard Task or having all relevant information for an inspection Yard task directly on the mobile device is possible within one central application. Also ad-hoc Yard Tasks can be done more efficient thanks to native push notifications which ensure that the Yard Logistics Operator gets to know about the new ad hoc tasks quickly and in real time.

SAP Mobile Start comes with built-in native features like notifications and widgets which ensure that the Yard Logistics Operator will never miss any important business update.
