Dear SAP Community,

Let’s start April at full speed with enterprise artificial intelligence as the topic of the month in the SAP Community!

To celebrate this, our team has prepared a series of enablement activities throughout the whole month so you can sharpen your AI knowledge, and also share it with the community.

Stay tuned by following our AI-related community tags so you don’t miss anything:

But first, let me share some updates regarding our latest achievements in the enterprise AI space at SAP, including embedded AI use cases in SAP applications, product releases, and successful customer stories.

New examples of how SAP infuses AI into its applications

Built-in AI capabilities in the new SAP Process Automation

Now generally available, SAP Process Automation combines the capabilities of SAP Workflow Management and SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation in an easy-to-use, no-code AI-powered experience.

Thanks to Document Information Extraction, one of the SAP AI Business Services, it brings built-in AI capabilities that enable users to make their processes more intelligent by leveraging machine learning for decision assistance, intelligent document processing, and more use cases.

Don't miss this SAP Community Call in April with our product experts to see how to automate your manual data extractions with embedded AI capabilities in SAP Process Automation.

Built-in AI capabilities in SAP Business ByDesign and SAP Business One

We’ve also delivered new functionalities for the hands-free ERP for small and medium businesses, reducing highly repetitive and time-consuming tasks - like business document processing - and freeing up business users for more valuable ones.

For example, you can now scan business cards and create business partner master data records on the fly in SAP Business One, leveraging Document Information Extraction, one of the SAP AI Business Services.

Watch the same feature in action, available with the SAP Business ByDesign Mobile app, available for Android and iOS. In addition to business card scanning, invoice scanning is also supported with the same service since 2021.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud for intelligent intercompany reconciliation

In case you’ve missed it, SAP S/4HANA customers can now use SAP S/4HANA Cloud for intelligent intercompany reconciliation, whether they are cloud or on-premise. The solution uses embedded AI to help finance and accounting customers automate intercompany document matching.

This reduces the cost of finance tasks and accelerates the month-end closing process while helping customers avoid compliance risks.

Discover the service and learn how to implement it by following the dedicated SAP Discovery Center page and watching the video below.

SAP Central Invoice Management, inbound processing module

The SAP Central Invoice Management, inbound processing module, complements SAP Central Invoice Management visibility capabilities with supplier invoice inbound processing.

Deployed on SAP BTP and tightly integrated to SAP S/4HANA Cloud, it enables our customers to manually upload and edit draft invoices. Additionally, it automatically reads the invoice content using Document Information Extraction, one of the SAP AI Business Services. It provides seamless integration to SAP S/4HANA Cloud for further processing. It is an application designed particularly for accounts payable accountants working centrally in an organization, e.g., shared services center.

Product updates, including the new Personalized Recommendation service, and new features for SAP Conversational AI and Service Ticket Intelligence

SAP Conversational AI

We’ve released exciting features as part of the February release of SAP Conversational AI, especially the new speech-to-text feature for the Web Client channel, allowing end-users to interact with their chatbots by voice.

It provides an intuitive implementation of the speech-to-text capability using any chosen service and a built-in, user-friendly experience.

Watch the demo below to learn how to set it up, or read the developer guide on GitHub to get started.

Other new features include transport bot configuration APIs to avoid manual maintenance in each tenant, new time zone and initialize actions, and more.

SAP AI Business Services

We are thrilled to announce that a new AI-based service, called Personalized Recommendation, will be available as part of the SAP AI Business Services portfolio later this quarter on the SAP Business Technology Platform.

This service will have the ability to draw insights from historical user behavior and available metadata, to deliver highly personalized recommendations for users, for instance in the context of learning or e-commerce. Once again, follow the artificial intelligence tag on the SAP Community not to miss the official announcement.

We’ve also released a new ticket clustering feature for Service Ticket Intelligence.
Users can get insights from the content of voluminous tickets made of unstructured text received by customer service centers and generate actionable business value out of these insights.

SAP AI Core & SAP AI Launchpad

For SAP AI Core, we’ve recently released the SAP Computer Vision Package to enable customers to build state-of-the-art Computer Vision use cases on top of SAP AI Core, such as object detection and image classification.

For the fast development of Computer Vision solutions, the package offers training and evaluation methods among other helpful components out-of-the-box. Consequently, the time for implementing a Computer Vision use case on SAP AI Core can be reduced from several days to several hours!
Get hands-on with the SAP Computer Vision Package and start implementing your Computer Vision use case in a new tutorial coming later in April.

To further increase development efficiency, we released two Python-based SDKs: the SAP AI Core SDK and the SAP AI API Client SDK. On the one hand, the SAP AI Core SDK enables developers to manage the whole lifecycle of scenarios on SAP AI Core right from their familiar Python environment. Get hands-on in this tutorial. On the other hand, the SAP AI API Client SDK allows to interact with any runtime that implements the AI API, including SAP AI Core, and provides a unified consumption across runtimes.

New ways our customers leverage artificial intelligence

Now let me share two success stories of how SAP customers are extending their business processes with our AI capabilities. Let’s start with the Free Hanseatic City of Hamburg’s Ministry of Finance in Germany.

Cultural Covid-19 aid-application platform

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the music, cultural, and entertainment industry in Germany was widely affected by the governmental restrictions that were taken to contain the pandemic. Many artists were struggling to meet their basic needs. To compensate for this negative impact, short-term financial aid became necessary.

The Cultural Covid-19 Aid-Application Platform was implemented as a Cloud Application on SAP Business Technology Platform, leveraging SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP). It provides a webpage, an SAP UI5 based application platform, and an SAP Fiori Elements-based back-office platform.

With this, the Free Hanseatic City of Hamburg was able to implement and operate a 100% digital end-to-end process from the application to the final payment of the financial support. All documents and process-related communication was done directly on the platform without any paper-based processing by automating the different steps using several SAP AI Business Services.

Document Information Extraction service was used to check for specific data, such as cost and revenue, which the applicant had to provide proof of. The automatically extracted information is checked against the applicant’s data in the aid-application form which is the basis for payout calculation.

Business Entity Recognition service was used to check if certain documents such as ID Card or bank account statements have already been uploaded and if these match the data provided on the aid application.

More than 160,000 documents have been automatically evaluated and classified so far using these two AI services, reducing workload while increasing employee productivity.

Building a mobile-first user experience for the millennial customer

Another great example is the Belgian telecommunications company VOO SA. This company prides itself on putting the customer first with speedy broadband service, a rich mine of TV content, and a generous mobile and landline service. Seeking to launch a new brand for the younger generation, VOO needed to revamp and simplify its customer experience. It digitalized the entire system using the SAP Commerce Cloud, SAP Billing and Revenue Innovation Management solutions, and an SAP Conversational AI chatbot.

Thanks to the chatbot, they increased millennial customer satisfaction with the new Zuny brand, which offers a 100% digital and mobile experience from acquisition through consumption to care, while meeting industry standards.

Helping people adapt to the new world of work

As one of the world’s largest telecommunications companies, connecting people is at the heart of everything Telefónica S.A. does. With rapid technological change and increasing automation transforming the world of business, Telefónica wanted to equip employees with the skills they need to adjust to new ways of working.

Telefónica partnered with SAP Partner Stratesys Technology Solutions S.L. to build an innovative reskilling application on SAP BTP.  Drawing on functionality within SAP SuccessFactors Human Experience Management (HXM) Suite, the application enables employees to identify existing skills and explore areas for professional development.

For instance, employees can fill in a skills profile form. Using machine learning technology provided by SAP AI Business Services, this information is analyzed to deliver personalized training recommendations to each employee. Machine learning algorithms also intelligently match employee skills with individual job requirements, supporting internal recruitment decision-making.

Now 91.5% of employees use the reskilling application and 77% of talent profiles are completed, enabling intelligent matching of candidates to positions.
