As BWN SAP Hamburg, we have been a proud member of the Corporate Women's Network Hamburg (CWN), an initiative of employees from SAP, Google, Unilever, AstraZeneca and Gruner+Jahr, for a year now. The CWN offers women from these Hamburg companies a platform to exchange views on various topics across industries. This was also the case last Thursday at our second CWN event.

The first part of this CWN event was all about #iamremarkable, an initiative founded by Google to encourage open communication about accomplishments and achievements at work and beyond. In addition to a keynote speech, there was also enough time for the over 90 participants for practical exercises in the break-out sessions

The second part of the event was dedicated to the topic of "Female Empowerment" in a fireside chat with the following speakers: Wiebke Thelo (SAP), Nina Michahelles (Google), Mirijam Trunk (Gruner+Jahr), Eduardo Kneese (AstraZeneca) and Hilke Krause (Unilever). The diverse speakers gave new thoughts on how "female empowerment" can be achieved uniformly in a wide variety of corporate sectors and ultimately how it can really be lived in everyday work. It was mentioned, for example, that old role models and thought patterns still predominate, which often still stand in the way of men, for example regarding paternity leave and parental leave.

Furthermore, structural imbalances in management positions were mentioned, e.g. that a male appointment in top management is often followed by other male appointments in lower management positions without considering suitable female appointments. Not only women should strengthen each other, but men can also contribute to female empowerment by actively suggesting women for a position.

Let's all become more aware of what makes us remarkable for ourselves and from the observation of others and actively talk about it to help make the best possible use of the potential of everyone for the company and thereby always focus on people, regardless of role or thought patterns and of the respective gender!

It was a successful event and with the great cooperation of all organizers of the 5 companies as well as the speakers for the lively and inspiring exchange.
