Hello everyone! If you are familiar with SAP Automation Pilot, are interested in automation for your Kubernetes Clusters and at the same time also wish to share your feedback on these two topics and help us make SAP Automation Pilot a better product – please feel invited to join our SAP Customer Engagement Initiative (CEI) . This initiative enables you as an SAP customer or partner, to get early insights and hands-on experience on the SAP Automation Pilot native Kubernetes integration and shape the future of this feature.

What features we would like to discuss and align with you?

SAP Automation Pilot is a low-code/no-code automation engine running as cloud service on SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). It fits the ecosystem of SAP BTP, Neo environment and brings value to the SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry environment as well today, but now we look forward also to a native integration with Kubernetes considering Kubernetes as a modern ecosystem.

However, the Kubernetes way for automation is achieved by creating so-called Kubernetes Operators. For that reason, SAP Automation Pilot will provide to the customers the possibility to design and implement Kubernetes Operators by using the same low-code/no-code tools that already exist in our  service for the other environments. Basically, with the SAP Automation Pilot operator concept for Kubernetes, we plan to replace the need of writing a custom and complex operator for k8s with SAP Automation Pilot k8s-related commands that can be consumed with ease (see the diagram below).

SAP Automation Pilot - Kubernetes Operators Overview

Besides presenting those operators as part of the CEI, we plan to share our concept, have one or more hands-on sessions with you and collect your feedback about the following features:

  • Rich catalogue of Kubernetes-related commands

    • Low-level commands for fine-grained management of Kubernetes resources

    • High-level commands for easier management of all common resources

  • Integration with Kubernetes clusters

    • Register and maintain Kubernetes clusters

    • See everything in the Web UI

  • Custom Kubernetes operators

    • Define custom Kubernetes resources

    • Design custom low-code operators powered by SAP Automation Pilot

    • Straightforward operation across multiple cluster

You can find out a high-level overview on the features in question in the diagram below:

How to register to it?

If that sounds appealing to you and you wish to join our initiative, please go ahead and subscribe to the this CEI project: SAP Automation Pilot: Planned Kubernetes Integration

How much effort from my side I need to plan?

We expect an average effort in the range of 4h each month throughout 2022 but of course, that’s something that could be aligned in addition.

How do I register on the Customer Influence website?

A short overview about how to find and register for a CEI project can be found on influence.sap.com. Please consider that the projects will be open for customer registration until March 11, 2022.

Follow-up after registration: When you register for a project, you will be invited to an introductory call with the SAP project lead. At this point, further participation is optional. Typically, all activities are governed by the Feedback Agreement with SAP.

In case of any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment to this blog post or ask your questions about the topic in SAP Community with using this Q&A tag link .

Thank you in advance for your interest towards SAP Automation Pilot and I hope to see you joining our CEI project!
