Trends & Challenges for the World of Work 2022

In the pandemic, many processes triggered by digitalisation have accelerated. These are the three most important trends & challenges after the pandemic.

From the physical office to the hybrid working world

With digitalization, there was for the first time the possibility to perform essential work at any location. But until the Corona pandemic, few companies did away with the office as a central work location. The Corona crisis acted as an accelerant in this respect. Forms of remote working became the new standard within a few months. In the future, the physical office will not lose its importance, but hybrid workplaces will become the new standard in the software and technology industry. This poses various challenges. In the classic analogue working world, communication within companies in individual departments and in project-based teams essentially took place through direct person-to-person exchanges. Due to the growing importance of remote work, direct points of contact are no longer necessary and communication is increasingly mediated via digital tools and systems. Finding an efficient communication infrastructure is therefore crucial.

IT Security & Cybercrime

Cyber attacks are the greatest acute threat to German companies. The number of cyber attacks has been rising continuously for years. In 2021, every third small and medium-sized enterprise was the victim of a cyberattack. In addition to the economic damage, a cyber attack always means an attack on the integrity of the company. A successful attack on one’s own infrastructure easily reflects on the company’s public image.

Combating cyber attacks is therefore a high priority. Companies must counter the professionalisation of cybercrime with a dynamic security infrastructure that is able to detect zero-day exploits as early as possible and protect against threats such as ransomware. But the best security infrastructure fails because of a fragmented IT landscape – data silos and different tools across the company potentiate potential points of attack and damage security.

Paperless office and hyper-automation

Even though many areas are digitalised today, there are still points where companies struggle with physical documents. These prove to be an obstacle to development in relation to automation and hyper-automation projects. Modern OCR solutions will therefore play an essential role in automated document processing in the future and create the prerequisites for further automation.

According to a study by Kofax, 97 per cent of companies have a problem with fragmented systems and data silos. Intelligent OCR technology does prepare the data for further digital processing – but an interface to other systems is necessary in which the data is then further processed. If there is no such integration into the existing process landscape, the data from the OCR software must first be transferred manually.

Interfaces can be used to transfer the data directly into ERP, CRM and other target systems without the need for human intervention.  For legacy systems and individual solutions in the company, transfer with RPA software is also possible. The software robot then recognises when a new document has been processed and copies the result to the intended location in the system.

Conclusion: Digitization of the working world not without the right tools

Even the technology industry is not immune to challenges related to digitalisation. A unified business solution that systematically interlinks all areas of the company is more important than ever. It forms the basis for effective collaboration in a hybrid working world, a resilient security infrastructure and the hyper-automation of cross-company processes.
