SAP Warehouse Management in SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2202 – What’s New

Before we go through today’s release article, I would like to make a formal introduction. My name is Florian Kuchta, and I am proud to announce that I took over the role as Head of Product Management SAP Extended Warehouse Management (Chief Product Owner SAP EWM) on the 1st of January 2022. In this capacity, I will now take over the task of communicating via these articles what are the latest innovations we bring with each release. With that all said, let’s move on to today’s feature article.

We have now released our innovations in the area of Warehouse Management (WM) in SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2202. You can find the overview of this release by accessing the following link to our “What’s New in Warehouse Management in SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2202” presentation.

In this latest Cloud release we enhanced the integration between production and warehousing, improved the user experience by enhancing the scan fields for HU identification, expanded the list of available APIs, and more.

Below we will provide a few of the key highlights of the new release. And we start with a few integration topics.

Synchronous Goods Movement via MIGO

With the releases since SAP S/4HANA OP 1909 more and more processes are enabled for synchronous goods movements from Inventory Management (IM) to the warehouse. Some of them are also enabled in transaction MIGO. The supported processes for synchronous goods movements using transaction MIGO are as of now:

  • Processes related to production (in- and outbound)
  • Postings related to purchase order receipts for external procurement.

Synchronous goods movements are an advantage especially for those customers with simple in- and outbound scenarios as the process is simplified and requires less user interaction and system communication.

As a next step, we enabled the additional synchronous goods movements in MIGO. This includes transfer postings:

  • From an IM managed storage location to a WM managed storage location
  • From a WM managed storage location to an IM managed storage location
  • Within a WM managed storage location (which means postings that refer to a posting change in WM)

Additionally, GR postings and GI postings without respect to a purchase order or without production relevance is enabled for synchronous goods movements. This includes postings such as e.g. GR without PO reference (movement type 501) and GI for cost centre (movement type 201).

Plant Maintenance Integration

In the SAP S/4HANA OP 2021 release, we provided a standard maintenance process with an integration between Plant Maintenance (PM) and Warehouse Management (WM). With this feature, you can manage the material components that you need for plant maintenance with WM. You also have full transparency throughout the maintenance process.

The material components that are requested are staged from a WM-managed storage location via an outbound delivery order. The outbound delivery order now contains a reference to the maintenance order (PM order) and to the reservation document. The staging area can be determined based on the recipient location that is entered in the PM order.

Mobile Warehousing

In this release we have also made some Radio Frequency (RF) enhancements and expanded the list of available APIs.

In the area of RF, we delivered some enhancements to the product-specific ad hoc Physical Inventory (PI) process using RF. With this feature, if you find a product in a bin in a physical warehouse, but not in the bin in the system, you can still perform ad hoc PI for the product using a radio frequency device. If there is mixed stock in the physical bin, you can perform physical inventory only for this product.

The new OData APIs we brought with this release are:

  • Warehouse Available Stock – Read: this OData service allows you to retrieve data about available stock in your warehouse, for example, to be used to determine stock for warehouse tasks.
  • Warehouse Order and Task: allows you to retrieve an expanded selection of fields containing data about warehouse orders and warehouse tasks, including the serial number requirement for the products in the warehouse tasks. You can assign serial numbers while confirming product warehouse tasks with a reduced quantity, for a specific set of exception codes.

We have also enhanced the OData API Handling Unit. With this enhancement, you can create handling units for a storage location managed by the warehouse management system. The empty handling units that are created can be used as pick handling units in the warehouse.

There are a few more enhancements to discover in this release, such as entering posting periods for Goods Issue reversal, enhanced scan fields for HU identification, queue monitoring to analyze queue entries for inbound and outbound message queues, SAP Fiori apps improvements, and others. Hi Florian,

do you know anything about Warehouse Order / Task events? I am still missing this functionality in S/4 Public Cloud - there seems to be no way to receive the notification of a creation of a warehouse task.

      Best regards,

      Tarran

      dear sir,

thank you for the very valuable information.

i have one question regarding RF screens , it is mentioned here as API, what about the application and layouts of the screens itself , is it already built or we need to develop it from begging ? as you know in EWM the screens already built and we can change in it directly.

      thanks
