Getting Started with SAP Data Quality Management, microservices for location data: BTP Free Tier

This article will discuss how to get started with a hands-on experience of SAP Data Quality Management, microservices for location data on SAP Business Technology Platform Free Tier plans.

Get an SAP BTP Account

To get started, go to SAP Store to sign up. The video and this blog post guides you through the steps to purchase the Free Tier plans without getting charged initially so you can try it out for free.  Register as a new customer or login as an existing customer to create and setup your global account.

Account setup will take several hours. When it is complete, you will receive a Welcome to SAP Business Technology Platform email with your account information including the URL to the SAP BTP Cockpit.

Please note that free service plan for Data Quality Management microservices is only available in global accounts that are entitled with Cloud Platform Enterprise Agreement (CPEA) or Pay-As-You-Go for SAP BTP. If you have already purchased pre-paid blocks, you will need to setup a new global account entitled with CPEA or Pay-As-You-Go. See Using Free Service Plans for additional information.

Start Your SAP BTP Free Tier

After establishing your global account, you can now go to the SAP BTP Cockpit and create a subaccount.

In the Account Explorer, select Create > Subaccount.

Fill in the Display Name and Subdomain and set the Region to Europe (Frankfurt) cf-eu10.

Note that SAP Data Quality Management, microservices for location data is only available on Frankfurt AWS (eu10) for the multi-environment.

Select Create to start the subaccount creation.

After the subaccount is created, select Enable Cloud Foundry. You can specify your instance and organization names or accept the default names provided.

Then create a space. You must specify a space name and assign space roles to yourself before creating a space.

Now your subaccount is ready to go.

Assign Entitlements

Your SAP BTP account comes with the availability of additional services, like SAP Data Quality Management, microservices for location data. Before you can enable the services, you need to assign a few entitlements to your subaccount.

Navigate to Global Account > Entitlements > Entity Assignments.

Select your subaccount under Select Entities.

Select Configure Entitlements, and then select Add Service Plans to add the service plans for Data Quality Service and Data Quality Service UI.

Make sure to save the changes.

Enable Data Quality Services

You can now enable the SAP Data Quality Services in the subaccount.

Navigate to Subaccount > Services > Service Marketplace.

Search for Data Quality and select Create to enable the Data Quality Services. Repeat the steps for Data Quality Services UI.

Add a Role Collection

Before you go to the Data Quality Services UI application, you need to setup a role collection and assign yourself to it.

Navigate to Subaccount > Security > Role Collections.

Select the add button to create a new role collection.

Select the newly added role collection from the Role Collections table and select Edit.

You can now select the DQMMICRO_POWERUSER role under the Role Name, and enter your user ID and email under Users.

Save the changes.

Start Data Quality Services UI

Navigate to Subaccount > Services > Instances and Subscriptions.

Select Go to Application to start the Data Quality Services UI.

If you do not see a number on the upper right corner of the Configurations tile (9 in the screenshot above), you may not have configured the user role correctly, or the browser might be using the cache that was saved before you configured the user role. In the latter case, try clearing the browsing cache or use incognito mode on the browser.

      Hi Hozumi,

AWS Frankfurt is no longer permitted for Cloud Foundry free plan. How can a customer try DQM if they can't deploy Cloud Foundry in their AWS Frankfurt subaccount?

      Thanks,

      ~Scott

      Hi Scott,

Currently AWS Frankfurt is the only region to enable the DQM microservices on Cloud Foundry. However, please note that there is no charge to enable Cloud Foundry with the standard plan and Data Quality Services with the free plan.

Creating a service instance for Data Quality Services does not consume any of your Cloud Foundry resources because it simply sets up the credentials used to call the service. You should not get charged to simply enable Cloud Foundry. The charges should incur when you start consuming resources within your Cloud Foundry subaccount. So just make sure you do not use any other services that can consume your Cloud Foundry resources if you do not want to get any charges.

      Thanks,

      Hozumi

      Dear Hozumi,

In addition to set up a SAP BTP Free Tier account and enable SAP DQM, is it not necessary to make any activity in SAP C4C to test DQM in C4C?

      Thank you,

      Best regards,

      Hello Teresa,

There is a configuration in C4C that must be made to "make the connection" to Data Quality Management, microservices for location data. Follow the link below and find the section titled, "Steps for configuring Microservice..."

You will want to stay aware of the Free Tier usage limitations listed by Hozumi above as depending on your system usage it might be possible to run out of free transactions.

      Regards,

      Michael

Thank you Michael, very useful information.

By using the free trier usage, how could we be aware of the number of transactions made? Is there any counter available in C4C?

      Thank you,

      Best regards,

      Teresa

A 30 day tryout or a one off total usage limit are atypical metrics for the Free Tier model. Why can't there be a recurring monthly free tier limit?

We decided to keep the free transactions to minimal. Our consumption based pricing allows our customers to try the service without a big commitment. If you like to try it beyond 30 days, we recommend to sign up with the Pay As You Go option, and for small number of transactions, the cost should be very minimal. Please find the pricing info on SAP Discovery Center.

Free tier is ideal for partners to use for sales demo solutions. The metrics of Data Quality Management’s free tier are not suitable for this use case as we’d soon be paying for the service even for a few requests per month…

We are trying to connect to standard plan of Data Quality Services via BODS(4.3).

      1. When we use access token URL option we get "Unable to Connect" in the transformation
      2. When we generate the token via postman and enter in the DQM datastore(Remove access URL). We are able to make requests.

Proxy is also configured and letting the request out. any pointers why things are not working for us in first case ?

      Regards
