How to set up RTI for order based planning in SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP)

Since SAP IBP release 2111, you can use real-time integration (RTI) to exchange data between SAP ECC or S/4HANA and SAP IBP order based planning (OBP). To get a quick start with the feature, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with our webinars and SAP Notes.

Start with a webinar “Meet the Expert: IBP RealTime Integration” that took place on November 18 to watch a system demo on data flow and to find out about the RT architecture (recording and PDF).

Next, check out the webinar “What’s New SAP IBP 2111 Part 2: Business Process Planning Applications (Demand, Inventory, etc.)” that took place on October 13 (recording and pages 74-82 of PDF)

To set up OBP with RTI, you need to set up cloud connector and execute a couple of steps such as setting up communication arrangements or copy a planning area from sample planning area SAP7F

Most of these steps have been demonstrated in the webinar “IBP for Consultants: How to Setup Real-Time Integration” from Dec 9 (PDF and Recording), but concentrating on IBP.
During that webinar, the steps have been shown according to an “RTI checklist” that contains transactions and app names, screenshots and links to the relevant online help, etc. Read briefly through that checklist to check which of your teams you need to get involved and to get a rough overview of the process.

Furthermore, a very helpful Webinar “SAP Best Practices for SAP IBP 2205: Real-Time Integration” (recording and slides) from April 2022 shows in detail the steps to set up the communication between ECC or S/4HANA and IBP using BTP and Cloud Connector. The documentation on Best Practise provide many further guidance.

Stay updated with further Webinars as there are so many updates with every new release on the real-time integration.

Don’t miss the two most important OSS notes describing the 3106619 – SAP IBP Real-Time Integration – Notes for Installation and the 3110007 – IBP Real-Time Integration: Information/Restrictions.

Attached to the release restrictions note, you will find links to the “RTI checklist”, a communication setup guide, an overview of which components to use in case you need to set up an OSS message and a how-to guide on the steps when you want to purge the flexible planing area and start over with your data. So don’t forget to mark these notes as a favorite in order to get informed whenever there is an update!

Check out the Online help on “Real-Time Integration with SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA” and finally browse through the FAQ for further information

If you have any feedback to the checklist or suggestions for improvement, we would appreciate if you post your findings here or reach out to product management or me.

Enjoy!

      Hello,

I would like to have your opinion on RTI setup when CIF integration is used with embedded PPDS.

We have CIF setup connection between S4H and ePPDS. We want to use RTI connection between S4H and IBP system. Both are using the logical name logic.

In this case can we use for RTI connection the S4 logical name that is already used in ePPDS CIF connection, or we need to create a separate S4 RTI logical name for S4 inbound and a second logical name for outbound?

      Thanks, Marius

      Hello Marius,

do you have any update on your issue? Is it possible to have both IBP and ePPDS using the same S/4 client?

      BR,
      Yuliyan
