Removal of Project Builder with SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2202
More than 2 years ago, we shipped the first version of the SAP Fiori based Project Planning app (F3822), to provide a more consistent user experience for setting up and managing project structures for enterprise projects. Among other things, the new app comes with a seamless forward navigation to other apps and a full support of the custom field framework in SAP S/4HANA Cloud.
Two releases ago, we started the deprecation of the Project Builder application. With the 2202 release, we will now remove the Project Builder (CJ20N) from SAP S/4HANA Cloud.
Note: We’d like to emphasize that the removal of the “Project Builder” application only affects SAP S/4HANA Cloud as our public cloud offering. For the private cloud offering as part of SAP S/4HANA Cloud you can still make use of the ‘Project Builder’ application.
In case you haven’t had the chance to work with the Project Planning app yet, we like to give you a first introduction with this post.
You can use the SAP Fiori apps Project Control (F3215) and Project Planning to manage the WBS element structure of enterprise projects and maintain the following details of WBS elements:
- Create and change the structure of WBS elements, including drag & drop capabilities
- Include a hierarchy of WBS elements from other enterprise projects, if needed together with project demands and settlement rules
- Maintain key attributes of WBS elements in a table format
- Enhance the table with customer fields
- Display and change planned dates by help of a Gantt chart
- Show the number of assigned project demands, maintenance orders, sales orders and purchase orders and navigate to them
- Draft for the WBS element structure and the WBS element attributes
On opening Project Control application, you can navigate to the WBS element structure directly from the list of projects. Open the context menu and click on “Project Planning”.
The WBS element structure opens in display mode. In display mode, you can change the processing status of the whole project or parts of it. To do this:
- Select the project or WBS element and choose the processing status.
- The status of the WBS element and all its child elements will change.
By moving the slider, you can adjust to the table or Gantt area as per your requirement. In the edit mode, you can change for example key attributes of the WBS elements. To create new WBS element, select the right position and click “Create”.
To create a child WBS element, mark the WBS element and click the “Indent” button.
To change the WBS element structure, you can either use the arrow icons from the toolbar as shown above or drag and drop the respective WBS element as indicated below.
Note: Selection of multiple elements is not possible with the SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2202 release.
The planned dates of WBS elements can not only be changed in the table, but also within the Gantt chart. To do this: Select the WBS element in the Gantt chart and then drag and drop either the whole WBS element or the start or end point of it. You can use this option for example for a first rough planning of dates.
To open the detail page of a WBS element and maintain further attributes of it, click on the chevron icon at the end of the table part. The Project Planning app and detail pages for WBS elements share the same draft, so you don’t have to click “save” between navigations.
Additional columns show the assigned project demands, maintenance orders, sales orders and purchase orders. Click on the number to navigate to these objects.
We hope you like the new app. In case you had no look on it yet, we kindly like to ask you to make yourself familiar with it before the Project Builder is removed. The Planning App will be our platform for future innovations in the area of managing enterprise project structures.
Hi,
Is there a way to get the list of all projects and their WBS without having to go project by project?
Thanks
Manuel
Hi Manuel,
sorry for the late reply, just came back from parental leave. There are such lists in different contexts, e.g. the project cost report (https://fioriappslibrary.hana.ondemand.com/sap/fix/externalViewer/#/detail/Apps('F2513')/S28) in the context of financial reporting.
In addition we released different so called CDS views that can be used to create own reports for your given context.
Best regards, Sven
Thanks Sven.
I am not able to see all my projects and wbs using the project cost report ¿maybe it shows project with costs?
On the other hand, would you be able to help me with a suitable CDS?
Thanks
Manuel
Hi Manuel,
please have a look at the following CDS views as a starting point:

Hi sven,
Appreciate you're efforts regarding project planning tile.
Is there any tiles for mass changes , IM, easy cost planning other ps topics
I observed that too many report tiles are there in 2020 and also provided sap notes accordingly.
Before that we need to config so that only report data will be fetching in Fiori tiles. Ex: actual cost fiori tile
Like that any new notes are relased by sap?
Vikram
Hi Vikram,
sorry for the late reply, just came back from parental leave. In SAP S/4HANA Cloud we have a mass change app for projects and WBS elements: https://fioriappslibrary.hana.ondemand.com/sap/fix/externalViewer/#/detail/Apps('F3891')/S28
Best regards, Sven
Hi There,
is it possible to use the app on premise? Can you create network or only WBS? Can you do scheduling and costing? CJ20N contains lots of functionalities, is this app including only a subset of them or it is a "full" replaicement of Project Builder?
thank
Kind Regards
Fabio Bedini
Hello,
the project builder in public cloud offered only a subset of the capabilities available in on premise. Hence the new Project Planning app only covers that subset and not all features available in on premise. We do not plan to make the Project Planning app available in on premise.
Best regards, Sven
Hi Sven,
thanks for clarification.

Hi Sven,
How to add activities under WBS element and configure successor and predecessor like in Project Builder (CJ20N) from SAP S/4HANA On Premise.
Thank you
Hi,
network activities are not supported in SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud, hence you can not maintain them in the Planning App. In case you used to use them for the integration to procurement, please consider project demands instead, scope item 4RF.
Best regards, Sven
Hi Sven,
Thank you so much for your reply , we have a few others questions to ask , in the planning phase of the project we couldn't find how to add an original budget . Regarding the review phase of the project how can we get the earned value on each time line of the project.
Any help please.
Best Regards,
Hamza
