SAP Enable Now Reporting and Analytics Overview
Over the last two years, the standard reporting capability in SAP Enable Now has been substantially enhanced to provide customers with far greater insight of what content is being consumed from SAP Enable Now, how often it is consumed, and the preferred channels used to access the content. The November 2021 (2111) release of SAP Enable Now, due mid-late November 2021, added to the reporting and analytics capability by providing drill down functionality on three reports and increasing the number of content consumption scenarios that can now be tracked and reported. This enhanced capability now provides SAP Enable Now customers with all the information needed to understand what types of content their end users find most valuable and how they prefer to access that content. Armed with this insight, SAP Enable Now customers can focus future content development and maintenance efforts on content that is likely to be used, delivered in the most appropriate way for each end user group.
The remainder of this post focuses on some of the reporting and analytics capability now available in SAP Enable Now, following the 2111 release.
Configuring SAP Enable Now to capture content consumption information
Before being able to report on the consumption of content by end users, it is necessary to configure the SAP Enable Now Workarea, containing the content, to ensure that user consumption activity is tracked. If the settings are not correct, no tracking data will be captured, so no reporting is possible.
Within the Workarea Settings, there are two sections of settings that must be modified to ensure that end user consumption activity is tracked, Playback Settings and Desktop Assistant: Playback Settings. For more information about configuring the Workarea Settings to track content consumption when the content is accessed directly from Manager or via Desktop Assistant, refer to modifying Workarea Settings video.
Outside the Workarea Settings discussed in the previous video, it is also necessary to ensure that Web Assistant is sending tracking information to Manager, if your organisation uses Web Assistant to distribute information. Modifying Web Assistant to track content consumption is performed by adding the trackingUrlWPB parameter to the Web Assistant setup. Reporting user Permissions and Workarea settings
Within most organizations, it is common for Content Authors, Administrators and/or Business Leaders to require information about how their end user audiences are utilizing the content in SAP Enable Now. These individuals will use the reporting capability in SAP Enable Now to access that information.
There are two ways to control access to the reporting functionality in SAP Enable Now Manager and to the data that is to be displayed in reports.
Individuals who wish to run reports in SAP Enable Now must have specific user Permissions assigned to their SAP Enable Now user account before being able to access the reporting functionality in Manager. The easiest and most accurate way to assign Permissions to a user account in SAP Enable Now is via a user Role. By default, the Report Viewers role is available in SAP Enable Now Manager, and this role contains the Permissions necessary to be allow individual users to run reports. It is recommended that all users who require the ability to run reports in SAP Enable Now Manager should be assigned the Report Viewers user role. Don’t forget, it’s absolutely fine to assign multiple user Roles to a single user account in SAP Enable Now so adding the Report Viewers Role will only add to their current level of access.
In SAP Enable Now, content, such as Simulations and Book Pages, is stored in Workareas, which provide a means of controlling access to that content. Tracking data, captured when end users consume content, is also stored in Workareas and so the individuals running reports on that data must, at a minimum, have display-level access for the corresponding Workareas or the data will not appear in the reports. If the Report Viewers Role is used to provide access to the reporting functionality in SAP Enable Now, it can also be used to provide access to the Workarea(s) containing the tracking data that should be included in reporting. SAP Enable Now multi-channel reporting
Although there are now more than 15 content and user related reports in SAP Enable Now Manager, this post concentrates on three reports, which track the consumption of content through three different distribution scenarios:
- End users accessing content directly out of SAP Enable Now Manager. This includes multiple different scenarios, such as accessing content via direct links, access content in an SAP Enable Now content library, or accessing content from the Learner View tab in Manager
- End users accessing content through Desktop Assistant. This could be Simulations, Guided Tours, Books and Book Pages or any content stored within SAP Enable Now Manager
- End users accessing content through Web Assistant. As with the Desktop Assistant scenario, this includes any type of content stored in SAP Enable Now Manager that is distributed through Web Assistant.
The significant benefit of the multi-channel reports for SAP Enable Now customers is that they provide a complete indication of the content being consumed from SAP Enable Now, the mechanism that was used to access the content and the number of unique users actively accessing content. The three multi-channel reports available in SAP Enable Now Manager are: the Engaged Unique Users report, the Delivery Channels report, and the Content Visits report.
Engaged Unique Users report
The Engaged Unique Users report shows the number of unique users accessing content out of SAP Enable Now in a given time period, e.g. monthly. This provides a true indication of the number of individual employees in your organisation who are accessing information from SAP Enable Now. If these individuals were not able to obtain that information, the likely result would be additional requests for support.
Delivery Channels report
The Delivery Channels report shows the number of content objects accessed through each delivery channel for a given time period, e.g. weekly. The three channels that end users can use to access content out of Enable Now Manager are: Desktop Assistant, Web Assistant, and direct access of content from Manager, e.g. direct URL or through an SAP Enable Now library. In the Delivery Channels report, the direct access from Manager channel is referred to as the Trainer. The Trainer is an Enable Now term that means content player. In this instance, Trainer is referring to the Book and Book Page content player, the Demo Simulation content player and the content players used to display the other content objects. Collectively, these content players are referred to as the Trainer (Trainer = content player).
Content Visits report
The Content Visit report shows the number of times that individual content objects, e.g. Simulations, Book Pages or Media Objects, have been accessed through any of the delivery channels described in the previous section. This report provides an indication of the most popular content topics and the preferred content types, e.g. Guided Tours or Simulations. The Content Visits report will help customers to focus their content development and maintenance efforts on content that is regularly accessed by end users, thus providing maximum benefit for the available budget.
Please note, the Trainer delivery channel, included in all three reports mentioned in this section, has been added through the SAP Enable Now 2111 release. The current version of SAP Enable Now (2105) does not allow for the tracking of content consumption directly from Manager, i.e. the Trainer scenario.

Report drill down capability
The November 2021 (2111) release of SAP Enable Now not only introduced the ability to report on more content consumption scenarios but also extended three of the existing reports to provide additional clarity through drill down functionality. This functionality enables users running reports to drill down to identify the information that constitutes the original data displayed in the report. The three reports with drill down capability, introduced through the 2111 release of SAP Enable Now are: the Guided Tours Playbacks report, the Guided Tour Dropouts report and the Objects in Editing report.
- Guided Tour Playbacks – This report captures details of the Desktop Assistant and Web Assistant Guided Tours run by end users. Drill into individual tours to display details of the users who have opened the tour, the number of times each started the tour and whether they completed the tour
- Guided Tour Dropouts – This report captures details of the dropout rate for Desktop Assistant and Web Assistant Guided Tours. This report can be used to identify steps where users are consistently closing a tour, which may indicate a potential issue with the corresponding steps
- Objects in Editing – This report displays information about the total number of each content type that is currently being edited in Producer, Instant Producer or Manager. Drill down on one specific content type to display the list of actual objects being edited.

Over the last two years, the reporting capability in SAP Enable Now has been extended and enhanced to make it easier and faster for customers to obtain an understanding of the SAP Enable Now content that their end users are consuming, who is consuming the content, and how they are accessing the content. The 2111 release of SAP Enable Now – due in mid to late November 2021 – will further extend that capability to introduce multi-channel reporting capability and drill down capability. This capability will enable SAP Enable Now customers to obtain an understanding of the content preferences of their end user audiences so that they can focus their content development and maintenance efforts on information types and topics that are more likely to be used.
With the 2111 release of Enable Now due within weeks, you may be happy to wait for the upgrade to access this new reporting capability. However, if you would like to start investigating the capability right now, why not start to experiment in your SAP Enable Now preview environment. This is a significant enhancement and definitely worth careful consideration. From the perspective of improving UX, is there a way of accessing information regarding WHICH end users accessed content, be it via the Library or via the Desktop Assistant?
Is this something available in the back end even, in a raw .csv format say that we can then analyse and report on?
Thanks for the feedback. Depending on the access scenario, e.g. Web Assistant or a content library, it may be possible to determine who accessed the content using the existing capability. For example, if users are accessing content through a content library, it maybe possible to create an Assignment record in Manager for the content and then report on that Assignment to determine who was accessing content.
If users access content through other channels, such as Web Assistant, it is not currently possible to see who was accessing the content using the current reporting capability. It's possible to see what channel was used and how many times content was accessed but the drill down to user is not currently in place. There is additional reporting capability being added in May 2022, the next release, which may close this gap.
As an alternative, there is a reporting API available for Enable Now that allows content to be extracted from Manager and loaded into a 3rd party reporting tool, such as PowerBI. You can find documentation about the API at Enable Now Reporting API. It may be possible to access consumption details in one report and join them with user details, to provide the information that you are searching for.

One question please.
How to delete reporting history of deleted assignments?
When I go to Reporting -> User Report, I can see the old reporting data of deleted assignments. I used Purge All Personal Data option, its not removing everything but which meant to delete all user data.
Is there an option to delete individual history data ? If no, is it worth to raise a CIR ?
The Housekeeping function in Manager - Administration > Server Housekeeping will allow you to delete tracking data. Change the option to Tracking Data, enter a date and you can remove all tracking data. The system removes all tracking data prior to that date. It will not allow you to specify a specific Assignment, it just removes all tracking data created prior to the specified date.

Is it possible to get the modification time on SAP Companion object like Help and Guided Tour? I am able to get the modification time for object like simulation, book pages, and other objects via the API - Workarea Search, but just couldn't get any for the SAP Companion object.

The easiest way to access modification times for any Enable Now object, including SAM Companion content such as Guided Tours or Context Help Bubbles, is to open Manager and select the corresponding object. If you then open the Modifications section of properties, you will see details of the modification date and time and person who made the changes.
