Investing in Ongoing Career Development and Employee Growth: SAP SuccessFactors Opportunity Marketplace
Ever since the first wave of mass resignations emerged earlier this year, businesses across all industries have been struggling to determine the root cause. While some people are leaving their jobs because they reached a breaking point, decided to rethink life goals, or wanted better compensation and benefits, there is another underyling factor: they want meaningful work with the opportunity to develop and grow continuously.
SAP SuccessFactors continues to address this need through its market-leading talent solutions for learning, development, talent acquisition, and performance management. And now, we have a new solution that can help unleash potential at work: SAP SuccessFactors Opportunity Marketplace.
SAP SuccessFactors Opportunity Marketplace connects people to individualized recommendations for new development opportunities, including experiential and situational learning and various ways to learn new skills or practice current capabilities. It connects employees to short-term assignments, roles, mentors, mentoring programs, learning, or peer connections. It gives everyone an equal opportunity to pursue what they value most – meaningful and relevant experiences for ongoing career development and growth. Customers who currently use SAP SuccessFactors Learning or SAP SuccessFactors Succession & Development have an added benefit, as it builds on existing content.
Center of Capabilities
SAP SuccessFactors Opportunity Marketplace is backed by the center of capabilities – a framework designed around the whole self, which takes into account individual interests and passions and (on the roadmap) mindsets, styles, and other personal attributes. Center of capabilities is embedded throughout the SAP SuccessFactors HXM Suite, and is part of the platform feature set that’s available to all customers at no cost.
The new center of capabilities can store multiple libraries and hierarchy levels, with the added flexibility to have categories and groups of capabilities as well. You can upload content, import content, or integrate with a 3rd party library. The capabilities will be used across the talent suite, enabling customers to make more informed talent decisions.
The center of capabilities also introduces proficiency level ratings tied to the capability. This is different from a performance rating – it’s intended to be objective, and does not require customers to have SAP SuccessFactors Performance and Goals. Customers do have the option to bring in ratings from performance review cycles that have happened in the past, even if they have different rating scales, and present them as proficiency ratings. The rating scales will be normalized, enabling people to better understand where they stand with any particular capability.
As part of SAP SuccessFactors Opportunity Marketplace, assignments are a brand-new feature to manage short-term internal assignments. Assignment owners, like a manager, project manager, or perhaps an agile team lead, can create the assignment posting, save it as a draft if needed, and publish it.
Employees can find recommended assignments matching their capabilities, location, and other preferences. They can browse recommendations and also explore all assignments that have been posted. A simple workflow will connect the assignment owner and individual contributor across all process steps of posting, applying, sending an offer, accepting an offer, etc. A more detailed workflow with configuration options on notifications, approval steps, email texts is planned for the next phase.
Learning recommendations can be sourced in different ways, all coming from SAP SuccessFactors Learning. Whether through a learning admin, via personalized recommendations, or through a peer – all recommendations surface in SAP SuccessFactors Opportunity Marketplace for the user to act on. Learning recommendations can help a user close a potential gap they have for a new role or assignment.
Mentoring content is based on customers’ configuration and content in SAP SuccessFactors Succession and Development (within the mentoring feature). All mentoring programs that the user is entitled to join will show as a recommendation. All types of programs are supported here (invitation-only with supervised admin-managed matching, invitation-only with unsupervised matching, open-enrollment programs).
Role recommendations allow employees to understand which job roles are out there in the organization’s job catalog, and which skills and competencies, and other criteria are required for that role. These recommendations are triggered via the career worksheet or career explorer (within SAP SuccessFactors Succession and Development). Career explorer is available today in early adopter care, so customers using the ML-driven role recommendations can leverage it within the opportunity marketplace.
Employees have visibility into how ready they are for a certain role in terms of the required skillset. The solution provides a gap analysis and helps them plan development activities to be ready for those new roles. Once roles have been added into people’s opportunities, they can leverage all existing career worksheet solution features, which is integrated into a seamless UI flow into SAP SuccessFactors Opportunity Marketplace.
