Purpose of this blog


This blog includes the videos of S/4HANA Analytical Application for business users to understand how to use the applications.

Most of the analytical applications in S/4HANA are based on several predefined  application templates, so you can understand how to naviagte many of the standard applicationss only by understanding those standard application template.

Iit is not only for analytical applications. t should also help understanding how to navigate standard applications (SAP Fiori app and Web Dynpro Grid app) in S/4HANA.

As the videos includes the basic operations, I expect it could be used for training as well as demo.

To find which standard app uses which applicatoin template, see the section.

1. Web Dynpro Grid apps


With Web Dynpro Grid app, OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) navigations including slicing, dicing and drill down (add/remove field, filtering) are possible like MS Excel Pivot table.

What are explained:



  • OLAP navigations (add/remove fields, change the position of the fields, filtering (characteristic value/measure)) in

    • Navigation Panel

    • Context Menu

    • Navigation Button



  • Defer Layout Update (stop refreshing data)

  • Scrolling

  • Expand/Minimize

  • Jump to another app

  • Display ID and Description / Description only

  • Hierarchy

    • Select hierarchy

    • Filter with node

  • Save Variant for the customized Filter Bar and the values in the fields

2. Overview Page


Overview Page give the holistic view of the business. It consists of many cards, and from the card, it is possible to jump to another application in which detail analysis is possible.

What are explained:



  • Default value, value proposed when launching the app

  • Jump to another app from a Card

  • Customizing the Overview Page

    • Move the cards

    • Change the size of the cards

    • Hide/Show the cards



  • Change parameter value

  • Local operation in a Card

  • Customize the Filter Bar

  • Save Variant of Filter Bar

  • Apply Variant

  • Manage the Variants, e.g. apply automatically



3. KPI Tile Generic Drilldown application


KPI, Key Performance Indicator, is a tile in Fiori launchpad in which number (KPI) is included, and Generic Drill down application is the one to analyze the detail about the KPI. Data is displayed as chart, and several views are included in the app.

  • Chart View / Table View

  • Change the parameter values

  • Views in the app

  • Filter and jump to another view (Document view)

  • Add fields in the table

  • Export the data into Excel File

  • Drill-down and Drill up

  • Jump to another app

  • Add / remove fields for the chart

  • Other operations (zoom-in/out, expand/minimize, hide/show legend, change the chart type)

  • Mini chart

    • Threshold

    • KPI tiles included in the same KPI Group





4. Analytical List Page


Analytical List Report Consists of 2 parts, Filter Area and Content Area, and Content Are consists of Chart and Table. Filtering values in Filter Area works in Content Area, and when you point parts of the chart, the records in the parts are listed in the table.

  • Filter Area / Chart Area / Table Area

  • Change the parameter value

  • Records in the selected part of the chart are listed in the bottom table.

  • Jump to another app

  • Remove filter in the bottom table

  • Add fields in the table

  • Export data as Excel file

  • Change the view (Hybrid / Chart only / Table only)

  • Drill up / down in the chart view

  • Change the chart type

  • Other operations in the chart(Zoom-in/out, expand/minimize, hide/show legend)

  • Visual Filter

  • Included KPI tile chart



5. List Report


In List Report, records are listed. It is used not only for analytical purpose, but records can be created and edited in the app.

6. Analysis Path Framework


In Analysis Path Framework, the steps called “Analysis Path” are expected to be added. In the left side of the screen, analysis paths are displayed, and the selected chart of the analysis path is displayed on the right side. Data can be filtered by pointing the parts of the chart and it filters the data in all subsequent steps.

The Analysis Path can be saved and opened.

What are explained:



  • Add Analysis Path

  • Select a part of the chart in the 1st Analysis Path and data is filtered in all subsequent steps.

  • Filtering values in the Filter bar.

  • Other operations in the chart (expand/minimize, hide/show legend, Chart View/Table View, Value display)

  • Save explored Analysis Paths

  • Open the saved Analysis Paths



Which app is based on which application templates?


It is possible to detect which app is based on which application template in most cases.  Other than Web Dynpro Grid, the application type should be “Analytical” in principle, and application template of the app can be detected by the UI Technology as below.

It is not possible to detect which apps are based on Analytical List Page. In more cases, the app in which UI technology is SAP Fiori elements would be List Report.

Regarding Web Dynpro Grid, both application type and UI technology are Web Dynpro but Web Dynpro applications other than Web Dynpro Grid are included in the category. But in most Web Dynpro Grid applications, BexQueryName is filled or/and “FPM_OVP” is included in WDAConfiguration.
