We and our partner network are ready to help our customers to achieve their sustainability goals.

Our time to do something against climate change is running out. Large parts of the world are threatened by drought and wildfires, while other parts are hit by floods. The time to act is now, for our sake and the sake of all life on Earth. I want to use this blog to increase the awareness for climate change and show how companies can measure, analyze, and reduce their Green House Gas Emissions using SAP Software solutions.

In a recent publication, our Member of SAP’s Executive Board for Product Engineering Thomas Saueressig, explains how the actions that are necessary to mitigate the impact of climate change are within our reach and how companies need to tackle their whole supply chain and business network to effectively reduce Green House Gas Emissions. Many companies nowadays have the willingness to reduce their own emissions but calculating all emissions across a company’s whole product and service portfolio is an extremely complicated task, especially since product life cycle and value chain are more complex than ever, often spanning across multiple continents and n-tiers. Understanding complex business challenges and optimizing existing business processes has always been SAP’s strength. And we are doing that at scale, as we currently serve 94% of the world’s 500 largest companies. Furthermore, we are one of the founding members of the European Green Digital Coalition and member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, which supports innovations that help to decarbonize the world.

The president of SAP S/4HANA, Jan Gilg, tells us in a recent interview how he first came in touch with environmental policies in Germany in the 80’s and how thankful he is for the chance to grow up in an intact environment. Sustainability is the core of our vision at SAP. That is why we called our mission “chasing zero” – Zero Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Zero Waste and Zero Inequality. With SAP S/4HANA we are in the unique position to help our customers to achieve this goal! Together with our partner network we share the vision to put sustainable business success at the core of all our operations and ecosystem. We develop constantly novel solutions and have recently published SAP Product Footprint Management, which is an in SAP S/4HANA embedded cloud-native application. It enables our customers to calculate their environmental impact on a product level and to optimize their business decisions by integrating footprint scores, preconfigured and flexible, in end-to-end business processes, periodically and at scale, considering the entire product life cycle. Our customers can gain insights by combining financial, logistic, and environmental data in analytics and can evaluate and derive footprints at scale by leveraging SAP S/4HANA Cloud data and capabilities as much as possible.
