Extending Technologies Allows Businesses to Flex Their Human Side

Throughout my career, I have seen my share of businesses undergoing significant transformation initiatives. But no matter how elaborate or simple, one of the most challenging aspects of these projects is enhancing the human experience of their back-office functions, everyday work experiences, and financial processes.

Most companies view business transformation strictly as a technology problem that needs to be solved. However, they should start by assessing people and the processes first, then use technology to address the human aspect of doing business.

In essence, simplification and efficiency are critical to the success of any business transformation agenda. When thinking about the future of work, business processes, and organizational performance, people of all roles want innovations that go beyond tweaking screens or adding custom functions to their existing applications. Instead, they want capabilities that help them get work done faster, without complexity, and within a user experience, that’s designed for them.

According to Jagdish Sahasrabudhe, chief technology officer of the Global Partner Organization at SAP, this growing expectation requires businesses to “radically [innovate] solutions – adding new capabilities and workflows that address evolving needs and bring a new vision,” as said in his latest blog.

Fortunately, SAP partners are helping to lead the charge as they accelerate innovation with an experience-first approach. By tapping into a portfolio of extension services offered through SAP Business Technology Platform, they can create a variety of unique applications that extend and augment SAP technologies. For example, an in-app extension can be designed to make a third-party payment solution or investment application available directly inside SAP solutions to give users a seamless experience. These tailored applications can also extend, simplify, and optimize other workflow experiences, such as the approvals in procure-to-pay operations or talent acquisition in hire-and-retire processes.
