Overview of the SAP EWM Check Monitor
Today I would like to provide this quick overview of an excellent tool we believe more people should be informed about. The SAP EWM Check Monitor (CHM) is a tool to help identification and correction of data inconsistencies in customer systems. There is an extensive Wiki on the subject where we cover the features of the SAP EWM Check Monitor, and guides on how to effectively use this tool. In this article, I will only summarily present these topics, so that you have an idea on what to expect.
Checks are organized in a hierarchy of check categories – groups – checks. The hierarchy is built upon defined major SAP EWM application areas. Currently a set of standard checks and corrective functions have been implemented by SAP.
Example of Check Categories
The checks can be run in ad-hoc manner, but the real advantage of the tool is its high level of customization, that allows users to define specific types of checks that they would perform most often, or schedule them at specific times or intervals. The SAP EWM Check Monitor wiki provides guidelines on how to set-up these customizations, and the advantages they bring. Currently there are 5 main “how-to” guidelines you must be aware of:
- How to create a check profile – the check profile defines what checks are performed and the selection criteria to identify the objects to be checked. It is a persistent object which you can save in order to execute the same checks multiple times. This guide will go step-by-step into the process of creating your own profiles.

- How to set runtime parameters – you can also set different parameters before executing checks to optimize runtime, filter log messages and set check log expiration. The parameters can be set for ad-hoc check execution as well as execution of check profiles. You can also save default execution parameters for specific users. In the wiki guide you can find out which parameter options are currently available.
- How to schedule check as job – the SAP EWM Check Monitor (CHM) provides a report that enables scheduling of check executions as background jobs. This report is /SCWM/R_CHM_PRF_RUN (package /SCWM/UTILITIES). The guide offers a more detailed explanation and example on how to use it.

- How to start follow-up functions for the check messages – a follow-up action may enable further analysis of the problematic objects or even correct the inconsistent entries. The follow-up actions for the different check messages are defined and implemented by the check adapter that returned the given check message. In other words, for different check messages different options can appear, when right-clicking them. The guide in the wiki shows more on how to trigger the follow-up actions.
- How to schedule follow-up corrections as job – with some of the checks it is possible to do corrections of the detected inconsistencies. Some corrections which do not need any end user interaction and decision can be simply executed with a few clicks in the transaction /SCWM/CHM_LOG after selecting the corresponding check logs. You can read the guide for more examples and reports on how to schedule follow-up actions.
The official SAP EWM Check Monitor Wiki page mentioned several times during this article can be found by following this link.
There is also the accompanying SAP Note 3058435 where you can find some notes and Knowledge Based Articles with more “How To” steps to perform some corrections from your side.
We hope this article, the linked material as well as the tool itself prove useful in all your future implementations. Stay tuned for more such SAP EWM highlights and overview in the future!
