SAP CPQ – Knowledge Base(KB) Language Translation

Dear All,

This blog is intended to know how you can configure different languages from the backend knowledge base(KB’s) using SAP Variant & Configuration Pricing to SAP CPQ Attributes for LO-VC Integrated customer Instance.

Usage Advantage :
Making a User Experience journey for every CPQ sales user with different translations.

Background

Knowledge Base

To configure a product, the Configuration Engine cannot access master data directly that is created and maintained in SAP ERP. For this reason, the data (such as characteristics and object dependencies) must be grouped together in knowledge-base objects and made available in the form of runtime versions that can be replicated wherever the Configuration Engine is used.

KnowledgeBase Object

The knowledgebase object groups together all the master data that the Configuration Engine needs to configure a product:

  • Configurable materials
  • BOMs and BOM components of configurable materials
  • Variant tables
  • One configuration profile for each configurable material
  • others

Structure

A knowledgebase object is characterized by:

  • Basic data, such as a name, description, and status
  • Language-dependent descriptions
  • An optional group membership, which makes it easier to search for knowledgebase objects
  • An optional maintenance authorization
  • One or more knowledgebase profiles (see KnowledgeBase Profile ).

Just a little Background about language translation

Knowledge Base Synchronization Language – the default languages will be used during knowledge base synchronization. Knowledge base details such as product name, product description, and attribute data are retrieved in the specified languages. Administrators who maintain translations for their models in SAP Variant Configuration and Pricing can synchronize these translations with the products in SAP CPQ.

Every time knowledge base synchronization is executed, translations for the specified languages are synchronized for all products and product versions obtained via that specific knowledge base synchronization. Languages can be specified by using two-letter ISO language codes (for example EN, DE) separated by a comma. However, before languages can be specified on this page, language ISO codes need to be defined for individual dictionaries.

If the knowledge base synchronization language is not provided, translations are not synchronized.

An inside look at Setup – Providers and Click SAP

Configure the language code in the below-highlighted area which will translate all the attributes integrated from ERP.

Synchronization will happen daily with the scheduled time if there is any change in backend ERP.

Note :
EN should be always first. CPQ takes the first default language and followed by other languages.

Attributes

Once Knowledge bases are Synchronized are completed successfully, They will be visible in CPQ Products & Attributes.
After that, you can review the different languages by clicking 3dotted and Click Translate this item
