SAP Next Talent (SNT) takes pride in providing a robust 7-day onboarding experience for all its new program participants. Over the course of several days, SNTers learn SAP strategy, expectations for their time in the program, as well as crucial human skills and technical skills that will help kickstart their journey at SAP.

But of course, we can’t do this alone. With a wealth of expertise and knowledge across the global SAP ecosystem, we have identified and leveraged strategic partnerships with internal teams who are just as committed to ensuring that SAP employees run at their best. As part of these efforts, SAP Next Talent partners with the No-Ops Dojo to provide fundamental curriculum around customer personas, agile mindset, and scrum methodologies.

We launched a learning series that focuses on two crucial touchpoints with SNTers:

1.     Agile 101 Training during their first week in the program and at SAP

2.     User Stories & Storymapping Training after 6 months in the program

The intention behind the 2-part series is to provide foundational knowledge on agile mindset and scrum methodologies at the start – allowing participants to flex these new skills immediately in their first rotation. Then, when they return for their up-skilling trainings after 6 months, they can leverage their professional experiences in SAP to engage in deeper conversations around user stories and the power of storymapping when working on our products.

The impact of this partnership (now in its 4th iteration) has spanned across all 3 stakeholders: program participants (SNTers), SNT leadership, and from the No-Ops Dojo team.

From the vantage point of our program participants, there is immediate benefit in these trainings. They enter their rotation teams with the knowledge needed to jump right in and participate in sprint cycles, all while understanding the jargon. Additionally, some SNTers have influenced and introduced some of the agile and scrum skills they learned in the trainings, which has led to these techniques being adopted into their rotation teams structure.

From an SNT leadership perspective, the partnership with the No-Ops Dojo aligns with our program and location strategy (California). Caitie Sullivan, Director of Internal programs for Labs US, mentions, “A focus for development in the US is cloud native skills - agile/scrum is an essential pillar in this area, and one that's been identified as a skill gap of the future by SAP One Learning. All tech professionals need this skill to be relevant in tech of the future. We integrated this training and started our SNTers’ journey to become scrum masters (through the No Ops Dojo) to help future proof their careers in and out of SAP.”

The No-Ops Dojo has also seen tremendous benefit from this partnership. James Manzzullo, Agile Coach and Scrum Master for SAP Fieldglass, highlights, “Each of the topics shared with the SAP Next Talent program has its own subset of values, principles and practices that young talent can explore during their SAP Agile journey.”

But it doesn’t stop here- the Dojo believes that more than just a training, it is also a mindset journey for many (even outside of the program). Michael Basil, Enterprise Systems Engineer and Trainer adds, “Agile techniques and Growth Mindset help us connect with our work and the greater SAP community.”

What makes the partnership unique between SNT and the No-Ops Dojo is that this is just the start of an SNTer’s journey in these topics. The No-Ops Dojo Community has built out multidisciplinary tracks for SAP employees, breaking them up into White, Green, Red, and Black Belts. The trainings the SNTers participate in are only an introduction to the No-Ops Dojo Community and it is our goal that they join and engage with the community even after they leave our program. As Ryan Uttech, Agile Coach and Scrum Master at SAP Fieldglass puts it, “Individuals in the SAP Next Talent program seem to have a ‘Hunger’ for knowledge and are eager to learn more.” We cannot agree more. Stay tuned on this continued learning journey over the next few months.
