Sample Questions

SPOILER ALERT

Before proceeding, first try the sample questions yourself. As the saying goes, we learn most from our own mistakes!

>>> Take the Sample Exam <<<<

Of course, no point memorising the material as the questions below are not included in the real exam. What does help is to know where you can find this documented and to assess how familiar you are with the material.

On the exam page, there is a View more link to the sample questions. This opens a sample exam is very similar to the real thing. The sample exam has 9 questions. When you submit the exam you will get feedback about how many questions you got right. For the ones you got wrong, the right answer is provided.

YET ANOTHER DISCLAIMER

These sample questions are for self-evaluation purposes only and do not appear on the actual certification exams. Answering the sample questions correctly is no guarantee that you will pass the certification exam. The certification exam covers a much broader spectrum of topics, so do make sure you have familiarized yourself with all topics listed in the exam competency areas before taking the certification exam. At the end of the sample assessment, you can see the correct answers for any questions you got wrong.

The sample exam does not provide information about WHY an answer is right or wrong. In this blog we will comment upon the sample questions (and answers).

Question

SAP Analytics Cloud represents which SAP software strategy?

  • On premise strategy

  • Platform strategy

  • Cloud-first strategy

  • Cloud-only strategy

====

Correct answer: Cloud-first strategy

Explanation

A cloud-first strategy indicates for software development priority is given to cloud-based services, before on-premises products.

For most, this question will not have been too hard to answer. Anticipate most questions on the exam  to be a little bit more challenging.

As illustrated, this is a radio button question. If only a single answer is correct, you can only provide a single answer.

With multiple choice questions the number of correct answers is provided but not enforced by the exam UI, so make sure to double check.

Topic area: Overview and Core Functionality (8 - 12%)

I could not find any reference to "cloud-first" or "SAP's software strategy" in the documentation or the training manual of SAP Analytics Cloud but this might have been included in a previous version and which may have been a reason to retire the question from the exam.

Question

Which connection does NOT store any data in SAP Analytics Cloud?

  • Synchronization

  • Replicative connection

  • Live connection

  • Cloud connection

====

Correct answer:

  • Live connection

Explanation

There are two connection types: live data and import data. Import data replicates or acquires data  to SAP Analytics Cloud. This should not have been too hard to answer as this covers key functionality and concepts. All other three connections are not valid or existing connection types.

You can expect a large number of questions on these topics, although typically not as easy as this one.

Note the format of question: a short statement, short question, short answers. This is typical for the exam questions. You will not be tested for your command of the English language. The questions are phrased as simple as possible.

Question

Which default story design templates does SAP Analytics Cloud offer?

Note: There are 2 correct answers to this question.

  • Business content templates

  • New design templates

  • Analytics templates

  • Story templates

====

Correct answers:

  • Business content templates

  • Analytics templates

Explanation

There are story templates (stored in the Samples folder) and there is Business Content available from the Content Network.

In an older version of the interface, you could select to start your story with a Custom Template (self-made) or with a selection from SAP Analytics Templates.

The documentation does not use the term "SAP Analytics Templates" nor is "default story design template" referenced. This makes the question a little ambiguous.

Time of writing, only the term Templates is used in the SAP Analytics Cloud UI making both Analytics templates and Story templates (and arguably also New design template) correct answers, which may be the reason the question has been retired.

Question

Which filter types can you use within a Business Intelligence story?

Note: There are 2 correct answers to this question.

  • Dynamic

  • Level

  • Data sequence

  • Static

====

Correct answers:

  • Dynamic

  • Static

Explanation

There are several types of filters. For date filters, you can set the date range to be dynamic or fixed. For dimensions the documentation uses the terms dynamic and static.

When you create a filter (a story filter, page filter, or calculation input control) for a flat dimension, if you select “All Members”, a dynamic filter is created. This means that the latest dimension member descriptions are always fetched from the model. But if you select individual dimension members, and not “All Members”, a static filter is created. This means that the dimension member descriptions are remembered from the time when the filter was created.

There are no level filters but you can create level-based hierarchies. Data sequence is not a term used with SAP Analytics Cloud.

Question

What properties does the account dimension include?

Note: There are 2 correct answers to this question.

  • Aggregation input

  • Units & Currencies

  • Rate type for currency conversion

  • Account type

====

Correct answers:

  • Account type

  • Units & Currencies

Explanation

This question is more typical for those encountered on the exam. Make sure to be quite familiar with the training manual, the documentation, and practice, practice, practice.

As documented (and illustrated),

In addition to the basic columns of Member ID, Description, and Account Type, a set of technical properties is automatically created when the dimension is first set up.

  • Account Type

  • Rate Type

  • Units & Currencies

  • Aggregation Type

  • Exception Aggregation Type

  • Exception Aggregation Dimension

  • Scale

  • Decimal Places

  • Formula

  • Calculated On

Rate type for currency conversion is also a property but this you first need to enable currency conversion in the properties of the data model. Aggregation input should have been aggregation type. Arguably, all four answers are more or less correct, which may have been a reason to retire the question from the exam.

Question

When does SAP recommend you use the Agenda presentation type for Digital Boardroom?

  • When you want a traditional boardroom meeting structure

  • When you want to track future activity within a planning model

  • When you want an exploratory or corporate steering boardroom style

  • When you want to track progress towards previously defined goals

====

Correct answer:

  • When you want a traditional boardroom meeting structure

Explanation

There are two presentation types for Digital Boardroom: Agenda and Dashboard. Agenda is used for traditional boardroom meeting structure (as illustrated). The Dashboard type is used for exploratory or corporate steering boardroom style. The other answers reference planning and KPIs.

You might get a few questions about the Digital Boardroom in the exam either as part of the question or answer, so you need to be familiar at a high-level with the functionality.

Note that in the current SAP Analytics Cloud release the text has been removed showing only icons.

Question

Which of the following operators can be selected in a data access filter of a dimension in a model?

Note: There are 3 correct answers to this question.

  • Equal

  • NOT

  • Between

  • Contains

  • AND

====

Correct answer:

  • Equal

  • Between

  • Contains

Explanation

Another question that is typical for the exam. Unless you have already practised setting this up, it will be challenging to get this right.

The question is a bit tricky as the answers do not exactly correspond to the operators used, which may have been a reason to retire the question from the exam.

The filter is accessible when data access control (DAC) is enabled for a model. Using the Security > Role menu, you can then select a role (e.g. Planning Reporter), select a model, and either Add Read Access or Define Write Access. In the Data Access Filter for <dimension> dialog, you can select the operators.

Question

Which SAP Analytics Cloud data model functions can you use to enhance data?

Note: There are 2 correct answers to this question.

  • Dimension sorting

  • Connection change

  • Calculation of measures

  • Data grouping

====

Correct answer:

  • Calculation of measures

  • Data grouping

Explanation

For some questions, the best (correct) answer(s) can be obtained by eliminating the wrong ones. Changing the connection and dimension sorting does not modify (enhance) data, while calculating measures and grouping measures/dimensions does.

Question

You create a story in My Files and share it with another user. This user wants to add a comment to your story.

What must you do?

  • Move the story to a public folder.

  • Grant this user update access when sharing the story.

  • Attach the story to a discussion thread and invite this user.

  • Add a page in the story for comments.

====

Correct answer:

  • Grant this user update access when sharing the story.

Explanation

Another tricky question. To add a comment, granting Add Comment access suffices, no need to grant the user Update privileges. Here the best answer does not correspond to a best practice, which may have been a reason to retire the question from the exam.

Again, eliminating the wrong answers would be the best strategy here. If you have practised a bit with stories, you would know that adding a page, moving the story to a public folder, or attaching the story to a discussion thread would not produce the desired result.

As documented,

Commenting in SAP Analytics Cloud depends on the combination of permissions you have in the tenant and on the assets such as a story, model, or a folder.

When you want to view, add, or delete a comment in a story, the following permissions are required.

  • You should have Read, Create, and Delete permissions for the object-type Comment in the tenant.

  • You should have Add Comment, View Comment, and Delete Comment permissions on the story.

  • You should have Add Comment, View Comment, and Delete Comment permissions on the model to comment on datapoints.

If even one permission in the combination is missing, then you won't be able to perform the relevant action.
