It’s always crucial to look at both sides of the coin. That’s why I met with diegohdora, Managing Director at sovanta AG and SAP Mentor, to discuss the value of an SAP certification. During our conversation, we discussed:
1. SAP professionals need to keep their skills up-to-date, especially in a cloud world
Knowledge is crucial for being successful as a professional. I consider SAP professionals as pilots; they need a license, and an SAP certification is that license. Pilots need to keep their license up-to-date, they need a certain number of flying hours every year, so that the license stays valid. Certifications are relevant for both beginners and experienced SAP consultants. As Diego said:
SAP consultants with many years of experience with SAP technologies can get certified to expand their skills or to move their career into another direction. But also, for employers learning and certification is important in order to bring young talents into the SAP ecosystem. Diego agreed:
It is critical to respond to the changing circumstances learners find themselves in and to which learners and companies are adopting to. The COVID-19 pandemic has been a stress test on digital and virtual learning and has demonstrated opportunities to improve learning offerings.
One lesson learned during the COVID-19 pandemic is the importance of flexibility when it comes to learning. SAP provides different learning formats for different roles, skills levels, and needs. On SAP Community, learners can meet other SAP professionals and engage in peer-to-peer learning. On openSAP, everyone has free access to MOOC’s featuring thousands of courses each year on strategic topics. SAP Learning Hub includes all of SAP learning content across the entire SAP portfolio from overviews to very specific hands-on knowledge and provides learning journeys in order to prepare for certifications. Also, traditional instructor-led trainings, virtual and in-person, are still available.
3. Reducing barriers to learning and certification
Too many destinations make it difficult for learners to find the right content quickly. Based on learner feedback, SAP has launched learning.sap.com at SAPPHIRE NOW 2021, which is to become the single destination for all SAP product learning. This new SAP Learning site serves to simplify discovery of and access to learning offerings. The learning experience on this beta version is still evolving due to collaboration with learners providing feedback. Simplified discovery also applies to SAP certifications. SAP plans to integrate certifications into one seamless learning experience. It’s all about simplification.
