About a year ago, SAP released SAP HANA 2.0 SPS05 with a 5-year long-term maintenance window to 2025. This release gave a clear message about our commitment to our customers’ previous investments and helps them better plan for the future. We are also proud to say that this SAP HANA release has exceeded our reliability, stability, and quality goals. Not only is this the best performing release, but its adoption has also been the fastest of any SAP HANA release in the past decade. When comparing the first six months after release, the adoption of HANA 2.0 SPS05 has increased by nearly 50% in comparison to previous releases.

We have seen thousands of customers that have successfully upgraded their systems to SAP HANA 2.0 SPS05, and the feedback received has been extremely positive and supportive. Hence, we encourage every customer to make the upgrade to SAP HANA 2.0 SPS05 as soon as possible and leverage the substantial benefits of the latest capabilities like data replication or native storage extension. With SAP HANA 2.0 SPS05, we added new features that enable data replication and distributed processing with SAP HANA Cloud, facilitating hybrid scenarios to extend on-premise workloads. We also included enhancements to SAP HANA native storage extension, supporting SAP HANA scale-out systems to increase the potential scale of deployments.

The SAP HANA 2.0 SPS05 improvements in administration, monitoring, performance, and data privacy & protection extensions as well as the TCO reductions that come along with our multi-tier storage capabilities have been very much used and highlighted by our customers as key reasons to make the move. Customers also have spoken highly of our innovations in SAP HANA spatial, graph and machine learning. “With SAP HANA, query response times on large volumes of data are typically less than one second. Other advantages are its extremely high data compression ratio and the fact that it supports both the traditional relational data model and graph data models in a single, integrated application.”, said Wolfgang Ries, Board Member at avato Consulting AG.

On 15 July, SAP was identified as a Leader by Forrester in its first-ever Wave™ report on multimodel data platforms, The Forrester WaveTM: Multimodel Data Platforms, Q3 2021. The report analyzed SAP HANA Cloud and SAP HANA and noted its “outstanding support for transactions, queries, analytics, and search across hybrid and multi-cloud environments….” The 26 scoring criteria employed by Forrester Research covered three categories: Current Offering, Strategy and Market Presence. SAP scored five out of five in 17 of the 26 evaluation criteria. We take this as confirmation of our strategy and product direction and are very proud of this achievement.

And, we are not stopping there. We just delivered the SAP HANA Cockpit SPS13 with enhancements for administrators and in December 2021 we will release SAP HANA 2.0 SPS06 with some powerful new features in the area of backup & recovery, capture & replay, workload management, data integration, and others.

In addition, our cloud-focused strategy and execution continue to accelerate as more customers are starting to consume SAP HANA Cloud as their bridge into the cloud, providing the flexibility and scalability of a cloud-native, multi-tier, multi-cloud, and fully-managed database-as-a-service. While we are fully committed to supporting our on-premise SAP HANA customers, we are pleased to assure, that SAP HANA Cloud allows them to extend their on-premise landscape into the cloud. This enables our customers to cover peak workloads with hybrid scenarios and store petabytes of data in the SAP HANA Cloud, data lake.  We also recently announced support for SAP ASE & IQ workloads in SAP HANA Cloud, which will allow these customers to migrate and extend their on-premise investments into the cloud for a true-cloud experience and with a lower TCO.

While celebrating the success of one year of SAP HANA 2.0 SPS05, we are continuing to keep up the great momentum with more capabilities, flexibility, and simplicity. So, stay tuned. The next chapter in the SAP HANA journey continues and there are exciting times ahead.
