Extending Data Quality Management for Your Custom Fields

With the latest release of SAP S/4HANA 2020, SAP Master Data Governance provides a powerful new data quality management function. (see more details in this blog).

Most customers have their own custom fields to maintain their business-critical information. In the SAP S/4HANA environment, key user can use the Custom Field and Logic app to manage these fields.  For details on how to use this app see this video. Once you publish custom fields in the relevant context, you can use them in related apps and APIs.  In MDG Data Quality Management, it is also integrated with S/4 extensibility. This blog shows you an example of how MDG Data Quality Management supports custom fields.

For more details, you can refer to this HowTo guide document.

Add and Publish Custom Fields in the Custom Field and Logic app

In Custom Fields and Logic Fiori app, for example, we add one custom field to the Business partner Core View and then publish it.

Manage Data Quality for Custom Field

Synchronize it into MDC model

Before the custom field can be used in Rule definition, it is necessary to synchronize the custom field into the Process Model in MDG Consolidation customizing. In our example, this field is extended on business partner. On the Table Field of BUT000, we choose Synchronize Fields.

Define Data Quality Rule for Custom Field

Now we can define a validation rule for the custom field. In the Data Quality Rule app, you can find the custom field on the available list for Check Field.

In the BRF+ Structure of the applicaiton, Refresh Bining, and then it will be available in the context list, and can be used like other attributes.

Review Data Quality Evaluation Result and Remediate Data Quality Issue for Custom Field

In Data Quality Management, data quality evaluation applies all rules to the active data in the system. You are provided with an overview page app and an evaluation results app to view where your master data violates your defined rules.  For your extended fields, the rule violation information is also available in these apps and from there you can trigger the data remediation.

In our example, after executing the data quality evaluation, the rule violation items appear in the Evaluation Results for Business Partners app.

From here, data remediation can be triggered.

In the opened Mass Processing app, you can correct the data for custom field.

Once the data is corrected and after a new data quality evaluation, the rule violation shall disappear from evaluation result app, and your data quality score on the rule is increased.

MDG Data Quality Management has been integrated with SAP S/4HANA extensibility using the Custom Field and Logic app. With the end-2-end example described above, you can see the validation rule can be defined on the custom field, and evaluation and remediation will handle the custom field just like a normal field. As a customer, you will be able to manage your data quality on your own defined fields with SAP Master Data Governance.
