We have now released our innovations in the area of Warehouse Management in SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2108. You can find the overview of this release by accessing the following link to our “What’s New in Warehouse Management in SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2108” presentation.

With this release we are bringing to the Cloud out-of-the-box functionality for mobile warehousing, new master data configurations, new apps and features for internal, outbound and cross processes as well as some enhancements to existing ones, along with a few other miscellaneous topics. And we begin today’s overview with our biggest highlight of this release, Mobile Warehousing.

Mobile Warehousing

With this release, you can run warehouse processes on mobile RF devices to carry out warehouse activities such as putaway, picking, packing, and replenishment. The system guides warehouse operators through their daily tasks. They can scan bar codes to record and verify data such as storage bins, products, and handling unit numbers, or to enter picked quantities. With Warehouse Management, you have an out-of-the box set of SAP GUI for HTML mobile RF screens for processing activities in a warehouse.

As seen in the example above, we have clustered all logical transactions by processes in a standard menu, which cover all main warehouse processes. You can see a breakdown of the available logical transactions in the figure below.

Aside from this, there are also new Monitor Nodes, master data configuration options and other new capabilities related to mobile warehouse operations. I highly recommend you check out the linked “What’s New” document found in the intro of this article as well as this note to get a full view of the new additions.

Multiple Storage Locations in a Single Warehouse

With the 2108 release, we enable you to handle stock from multiple storage locations in a single warehouse. If you create your organizational structure and want to handle stock in a warehouse, you must set up the mapping of the storage location to the warehouse using the configuration activity Map Storage Locations to the Warehouse. This is already a mandatory activity from this release on for the first storage location you want to handle in the warehouse. However, you can now use the following configuration activities to allow the handling of multiple storage locations in the same warehouse:

  • Use Define Availability Group to define an availability group. The availability group is used as an attribute of a stock type and is intended to represent a storage location linked to a warehouse.

  • Use Define Stock Types to define stock types you want to use in the additional storage location and assign the availability group to each of them.

  • Use Map Storage Locations to the Warehouse to map a storage location to the warehouse and assign an availability group to the storage location.

To find these configuration activities in your configuration environment, use the search function. It is possible to handle stock from up to 11 storage locations in the same warehouse.

With this feature, you can perform posting changes for stock from different storage locations in a single warehouse. Note that for stock from a different warehouse, you always must perform an inbound and outbound process to move the goods from one storage location to another because they belong to a different warehouse. This is not the case if the stock is managed in the same warehouse.

Warehouse Processes Enhancements

On the warehouse processes side, I would like to highlight a few key features. The first highlight is the enabling of attachments for Handling Units. We now allow users to attach media and documents from non-SAP sources, as well as hyperlinks, that can be connected as attachments. We enabled this feature for Process Inbound Delivery Apps, in the Warehouse Management Monitor as well as in the Attachment Service OData API. These attachments can be managed on the detail view for the HUs, where users can upload, download, rename or delete attachments.

As mentioned, you can also use attachment services directly in the Warehouse Monitor, specifically in the “Stock and Bin” and “Documents” nodes. The monitor nodes offer the same upload, download and deletion functionalities.

Another highlight to mention is the new Fiori App “Display Warehouse Documents”. You can use the “Display Warehouse Documents” app to select and display warehouse documents. A warehouse document contains all information about a goods movement, for example, goods receipt or goods issue posting.

To round up this section of highlights, I will mention just a few more enhancements:

  • We have enhanced the Fiori App “Physical Inventory Counting”. In the App you can now assign serial number (SN) ranges to multiple items. The number SNs is checked against Product Quantity. Error messages will be raised if the amount of serial numbers does not match the product quantity or invalid input is detected.

  • We have also enhanced the Fiori App “Run Outbound Process” to override weight & volume. Not all master data is maintained to have precise weight & volumes for delivery documents, which is why we provide a way to adjust them.

There are more enhancements we made in this release for improving warehouse processes, which I highly recommend exploring them in the linked “What’s New” document.

Miscellaneous Enhancements

Here I would like to go through a mix of other feature and enhancements that are worth mentioning. We made it possible to navigate from the KPI Overview screen to the Fiori App for Processing Outbound Deliveries. Our motivation was to provide an easy way to identify the single document or documents which are causing the KPI, as well as an easy way to navigate to the document to trigger action.

We added new and updated existing nodes for the Warehouse Monitor. Through the new monitor node “Resource Management”, you can monitor the progress of work that is done by resources in your warehouse. You can also control which work is done by a resource, and which user a resource is assigned to. On the enhancement side, it is worth mentioning the enhanced monitor node “Exception”, which now shows the user who resolved the exception and the date & time when the exception was resolved.

Wrap Up

With the SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2108 release for Warehouse Management we continue the strong growth in the Cloud scope.
