Analytical profiles for Monitoring Business Units in SAP Business ByDesign Cloud ERP
SAP Business ByDesign Cloud ERP analytics users can quickly switch the business context (e.g. companies, org units) they want to analyze without the need to define multiple report selections or KPIs.
With the analytical profiles users can:
- Configure profiles with cross report selection criteria in the business analytics work center
- See and switch the profile in KPIs, reports or the Insights work center
- Extend business profiles by standard or custom master data sources
How to activate Analytical Profiles in the business configuration?
To activate analytical profiles you need to first go into the business configuration to “Analytics” under “System Management” and scope it.

How to create and define Analytical Profiles?
After changing the configuration and assignment of the views in the “Business Analytics” and the “Insights” work centers to the users you need to:
- Create and define your profiles in the business analytics work center
- Adapt the existing reports selections to reference the newly created profiles as “relative selection”.
- Adapt the existing KPIs to use the new selections you have created in the report.
In addition you can also extend profiles with any standard or custom data source for master data in the business analytics work center. To do so you have to select a master data source and click the button “Extend Profile”:

Hi Jan Matthes
Thanks for the update.
I have some difficulties in working through this process.
'Configure profiles with cross report selection criteria in the business analytics work center'
--> I found the profiles in Business Analytics, is it the same as you mentioned in the video?
I tried to create new profiles in the profile work center, but after 'Save and Close', it shows an error 'Reports is invalid'. What is the issue with this?
Last thing is in your video, you can switch the profiles on the top right-hand corner in the KPIs, however I do not find that tab after I finished the Business Profile. How do I activate that function?
Thank you.
Regards,
Brian
Hi Brian,
please ensure that you activated the new capability in the business configuration (see above) and that you also adapt the selections in your reports to reference the profiles you have created in the business analytics work center. I added a couple of screenshots in the blog which explain the steps for configuration in more details.
Cheers
Jan
Hi Jan,
Thanks for the explanation.
Everything looks good to me!

Brian
Hi Jan,
Can the profiles be also used via the Excel add in ?
And what is the difference between a selection and a profile ? Between different profiles and different selections saved ?
Regards,
Gosia Smagghe
Hi Gosia,
Profiles are available in the full reports and KPIs in the Desktop UI but not in Excel or Mobile.
The difference to a selection is that they apply only in one report. With a profile you can define criteria which span across all reports and KPIs.
Cheers
Jan
That is clear enough. Thank you.
Jan,
And is it normal that I have less characteristics to choose from than you in your screenshot/video (ex. supplier is missing which would be nice to have) ?
Also, I cannot defualt any of them (via analytics). Shall I contact the Support on this ?
Are you planning to add this functionality to the Excel Add in ?
Regards,
Gosia
yes, we only deliver a set of key standard characteristics. But as you can see with the last screenshot in the blog it is possible to a custom characteristics by using master data data source. Note: The button extend profile will only become active if you select a data source of type master data not for transactional data sources
