My name is Lukas Portugal and I work as a Senior Product Manager at All for One Steeb.

Many customers and colleagues ask me:“Is there aclear and simple solution to display and understand resource related data? “ And I can tell them „Yes“. Especially for the mid-term planning of a company, it is important to monitor the basic parameters, i.e. those that represent the basis of long-term planning.

For every Professional Service Providers the important parameters are:

- Order/Project backlog

- Utilization/employee situation

- Opportunity pipeline

In order to make the right decision it is necessary that the relevant data is clearly displayed together and easy to understand Hence we created a solution in SAP Business ByDesign that significantly simplifies resource planning and makes it more predictable.

Based on those import parameters (and the related data) we created a planning logic via a Microsoft Azure Service. One way of displaying it would be in the SAP Analytics Cloud or in MS Excel. Furthermore we also created a best practice set of data sources – this makes the planning easier, more efficient and standardized.

A schematic representation of a dashboard can look like this. The white bar is the effort in of projects and the orange bar shows the effort of Opportuntiy. The budget is shown as blue line all over the year. The Other lines could show revenue and contribution margin.

By including a wide variety of data sources from SAP Business ByDesign, the current situation of the company is accurately shown. Due to the different filters and views in SAC or Excel, the tool can also be used at different management levels. The causes and interdependencies of costs, billing days, orders, projects, opportunities and capacities are clearly displayed so that executives are able to make quick and well-founded decisions.

In conclusion, this solution is ideal for better resource planning and for having a better overview and predictability of projects.
