SAP BTP DISCOVERY CENTER – ESTIMATOR

I’m happy to announce that it is now also possible to create estimates in Discovery Center to bring services, missions and estimates closer together.

To use the newly introduced SAP BTP Discovery Center Estimator open https://discovery-center.cloud.sap/ and log on. Afterwards you have three possibilities to access the Estimator.

1. Via Control Center link

In the Control Center click on “Estimates”:

2. Via the menu “Estimator Basket” directly to the “My Estimates in Control Center” or

3. Directly via link https://discovery-center.cloud.sap/protected/index.html#/mymissions/?tab=myestimates

Create New Estimate

To create a new estimate click on the “+ Create New Estimate” tile in the Control Center “Estimates” menu bar.

Edit Structure

To include as an example “Production”, “Quality“ and “Development” as a structure please click “Edit Structure”.

Afterwards edit the section in the estimate itself:

Adding Services

Adding services could be the next steps:

Partial Usage

What we newly introduced is the so called “Partial Usage”:

The request from customer and sales representatives was, that services for example are also used in other projects and therefore the price of this service should only be accounted partially for this estimate, because it is only partially used. To edit the “Partial Usage” click on the pie-chart Icon and edit the percentage assumed:

Customize Estimate

Click “Customize Estimate” to change information around the license model (CPEA or Pay-as-you-Go) or the “Estimation Period”:

Share Estimate

After finishing the estimate, you can click on “…” to share (or reset / duplicate) your estimate.

The link can then be shared with stakeholders.

Set Default Estimate

Back in the Control Center the estimate appears in “My Estimates” and also in “Shared Estimates” because a link for sharing was generated.

If the new estimate should also be accessible via the calculator icon “Estimator Basket” in the menu bar, then set to default via the “…” on the tile:

This is very handy. Thanks for the update. I assume this estimator can be used only for BTP services which are in the CPEA pricing model

What happens to the SAP BTP Pricing estimator which has been there for a while https://www.sap.com/australia/products/business-technology-platform/estimator-tool.html

      Thanks for your comment.

The estimates are for CPEA and Pay-as-you-Go pricing models.

The SAP BTP estimator on SAP.com will be available in parallel.

Since the link Murali posted had "Australia" in it and there is no search in sap.com, I took it to Google and this is the first link that was found for "SAP BTP estimator": https://www.sap.com/products/business-technology-platform/estimator-tool.html

That page shows a disclaimer (see below) about different pricing models, which seems to be no longer accurate. There is no "Start Now" button and I was able to create an estimate that showed CPEA in the header. The estimate in Discovery Center also shows CPEA (at least by default, I haven't changed anything), so are both tools actually the same? I'm confused...

      Hi Jelena,

Why do you say that the disclaimer is no longer accurate? I noticed that the same disclaimer has been used for the newly launched SAP BTP Discovery Center Estimator. In both the estimators you would be able to click on "customize estimate" button to change the License model from either CPEA or Pay-As-You-Go.

"Request a Quote" & "Start Now" show as a floating button next to your scroll bar.

      Hi Murali,

      1. In the SAP BTP estimator tool, this disclaimer shows up immediately as a pop-up before the page opens. There are no buttons whatsoever on screen at that time, so the whole text is quite confusing. I've noticed that the same text is repeated at the bottom of the page once you get there. So the pop-up seems redundant.
      2. I believe verbiage of the disclaimer makes it confusing. Since it's the estimator tool and I've accessed it with the sole purpose to check how to get an estimate, the way I read the first statements was "to start a CPEA license model estimate...click on Request a Quote". Obviously, we can get an estimate right there in the tool, so I thought it was an outdated instruction. But re-reading it now, I see it has no word "estimate" and reads "to start a... license model". Did this mean to say "start a service using an X license model"? If so then it would explain a confusion. (Sorry but "start a model" sounds like nonsense to me, which likely led to my mind filling in the blank there incorrectly.)

Please understand that my feedback is from POV of someone who is not intimately familiar with the different models, the lingo, etc. Unfortunately, I find that it's frequently the case with messaging from SAP that it requires certain level of being "in the loop" already in order to understand it. I assume you're already somewhat familiar with the subject, so all this immediately makes sense to you, naturally.

I apologize if such "newbie" feedback is unwelcome and if these tools by definition are meant for those with different expertise level. It did not occur to me from this blog post.

Hi Jelena, I hear you. Be assured that the team always welcomes constructive feedback to ensue that the offerings are actually usable and adopted. There are people with different level of SAP BTP awareness who visit the Discovery center and estimators. Hence, its always good to hear feedback from "newbie" or "experts" to ensure the solution connects with everyone. Holger Neuert: It would be good to have a feedback option for the community to help improve the solution.

I agree, feedback option would be very useful. Great idea!
