Report Story Tips-Part2

Introduction

The report story is a great tool when it comes to collating HR data and showing a meaningful statistics and charts which enable business to Visualize HR information and take appropriate decisions as needed or showcase the report in any leadership meet etc. It comes in handy for day to day tasks and relives the HR or LOB heads from depending on some one to extract data for them and then work with the offline data.

In this blog I want to share one more tip which enables the report designer to have count of the data set combined with run time selected dimensions using an input control.

Step1. Create the required Data source

Go to the data source option and create a new data source with required columns.

in my case I have chosen to take the employment data (Job info)

Save the data source and give a name to it or leave the standard name as suggested by the system . Select the rest of the actions shown and move forward.

Step3. Create the Chart

Go to the home page and add a new chart from the insert menu . The system will first show a blank chart , you will need to add the measures and dimension as required , in this case we will leave the dimension blank for the moment and select count as a measure. Once done you will get the output as below.

Step4. Most important we will define the dimension input control here

Navigate to the Dimensions section of the chart designer and scroll down , you will see Create Dimension input Control , click on it then the system will show the columns you selected in the query .

select which dimensions you require to be shown as input controls on the chart as shown above

Step5. Then you can add more flavor for color options

In this way you can have single or multiple input controls defined as per need/Requirement.

Summary

In this blog we learned below points

  1. To define a new data source
  2. To define a new a simple chart
  3. To define a dynamic input control
  4. Have some color options to the chart based on the dimensions selected.
