#Hack2Build – SAP S/4HANA Cloud Side-by-Side Extension

North America

Jun. 18th - 25th , 2021

SAP Co-Innovation Lab (COIL), in cooperation with SAP Extension Suite product management and the SAP Solution Center teams, delivered a successful Hack2Build partner innovation event in North America from the 18th – 25th of June, 2021.

Great Participation From our Partner Ecosystem

We are very honored to have more than 35 participants representing 6 partner teams joined this week-long #Hack2Build event. The partners were organized with a mission to address real customer use cases using SAP S/4HANA Side-by-Side extension.  All teams were passionate about building the solutions for real business pain point.

A Wonderful Hacking Journey

A lot of work went to getting the partners ready weeks before the hackathon started.  On the pre-session, in addition to introduce the agenda of the hackathon, the SAP COIL team walked through all necessary system landscape such as S/4 HANA Cloud, BTP platform with multiple services such as SAP HANA Cloud, SAP Event Mesh, SAP Business Application Studio, SAP BTP Kyma Runtime, Workflow Management, etc.

The hackathon spread across 6 days. On day 1, Jun. 18, all teams were introduced to each other, rules and goals were explained. After keynotes and technical enablement sessions, access to infrastructure and landscape were provided to all participants. All partners jumped in right away during the weekend to check out the hacking environment and get their hands dirty.

From Jun. 20th to 24th, all the 6 teams were working on building a prototype for their selected use cases, with strong engineering guidance and support from SAP Cloud Foundry and Kyma product team as well as SAP COIL team during the building phase.

An Amazing Demo Jam

After a week’s coding and hacking, 6 partner teams presented their solutions in a 2 hour long demo jam on the final day, Jun.25th.

These 2 hours demo were full of excitements. Each team had an opportunity to introduce the business challenges they were addressing and what customers can benefit from their solutions, and most importantly, to demonstrate live to the judges and other participants how their use cases create value for the particular business scenario.  The judges at the end of each demo asked questions and shared their thoughts and feedback.

… and the Winners is

Since all the teams delivered amazing solutions with very appealing business values, the judges really had a hard time to pick winners from the 6 teams.

After an intensive discussion among the judges, the winner NIMBL was announced.

Congratulations to Nathan, Kunal, Aaron, Paulo and Sebastiano!

Team NIMBL emerged as the Winner with their prototype: Intelligent Accounts Payable Shared Service Solution. This could be an either Hybrid or Cloud solution based on SAP Fiori and Business Technology Platform. The unified Fiori front-end experience is scalable to multiple SAP back-end system’s Accounts Payable processes. Workflow is initiated from incoming invoices routed to AP clerks for review, edits, approval & posting. Especially, SAP Conversational AI supports AP clerks with real-time answers to important questions.

All the other teams presented very impressive solutions in the demo jam as well. A big shout out to all teams and the use cases they created during this hackathon:

Team NTT - Supplier Portal application for Open SA/PO;

Team Convergentis: Travel, Expense and Invoice Management;

Team NTT2: Automation of month end activities;

Team NTT3: Smart Approval for work permits on go;

Team SAT Infotech: KonneKt - Enterprise Virtual Assistant

The judge team was well represented by SAP business and product leads. A big thank you to Rudi, Louenas, and Renchy for providing valuable insights on what’s most valuable with SAP S/4HANA Side-by-Side extension and helping us pick winning solutions.
